One size is too small the next is too big

Does anyone ever have this problem?

I seem to have it with all types of clothes.. a pair of tracksuit bottoms in a size small is too small and then the medium is too big, in jeans a 32 is too big but a 30 is too small. The same goes with jumpers and t-shirts.

I know it's hard to get anything to fit you exactly perfect, and then you have the problem of the washing machine shrinking it or making it bigger, but all that aside is it better to get something a bit too big or a bit too small? I mean does something a bit too small and uncomfortable look better, or does something a bit too big and more comfortable look better?

It's usually a problem with things that are sized 'small' 'medium' & 'large'.it's hard to break down various women's body types & sizes into only 3 categories. Maybe try go for clothes sized as 8, 10, 12 etc..covers more bases. Although that said I think I'm a size 11! 

Thanks for the reply, but I'm a male so I've no idea about sizes like that haha. It's all small-medium-large, and jeans/slacks are 30-32" :/

But it's very frustrating as the sizes I get seem to be too small or too big, it's very hard to know whether to get a size too small or get a size too big when none of them fit you properly.

    I understand you completely.

I'm in between an 8 and a 10. 10 is too big and an 8 doesn't offer the freedom I want.

I got a pair of size 5 (size 9 IRE) Levi's while in the US and they are the best fitting jean's I've ever had.

So I wish they had in-between sizes too! Perhaps I should just go for a run and get down to a loose 8.

Do American's actually have in-between sizes? I remember (don't laugh) in Mean Girls when Regina's dress didn't fit her they said they had only sizes 1, 3 and 5. Was that a part of the Sears joke or actually genuine?

    *Blonde moment* :pac:

You would think that in this day most fashion designers/clothes brands would make in between sizes, surely there's a large enough market for it! You can rarely get in between sizes to be honest. I think I saw a 31 waist 29 leg jeans in Dunnes before but unfortunately I didn't like what I saw so I didn't get them.

I think the joke was that the store was called "1-3-5", so they only had 1, 3 and 5, which are small sizes. So she'd have to go to Sear's to get the bigger size.

Juniors dresses come in odd numbers - think juniors is like 13-17/18 age group, high school anyway. Some jeans also come in 1,3 etc... but they're not inbetween, because they don't have 2 and 4 etc. It's one or teh other

I always find jeans that fit me on the waist are too big on the legs and the ones that fit my legs are too tight on the waist.....and no amount of time in the gym seems to sort this crappy problem :(

I have this problem every time I buy a pair of jeans. I haven't had a perfectly fitting pair of jeans in yonks.

Lots of brands actually do make odd sizes, but it's the high street shops that don't stock them. They will generally order them in for you if you ask though. I found G-Star in Debenhams to be quite good for that.

But yeah, it's bloody annoying. Go for too small and you can't sit down comfortably.. go for too big and they fall down when you're walking around unless you go another notch up on the belt, but then you get that awful bunching in the material..
