A friend of mine has been offered a good deal on a UK imported A6 2.0TDi.

Not sure if I read it here before, but was there a problem with older 2.0TDi engines? Are they the PD ones and now the newer CR ones are more reliable?

When did this happen and is there a chance this 2009 model could have the PD engine and if so how can he check?

I think the engine codes for the CRs start with CEG if that helps. Surely a 2009 should be CR though?

Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audi_A6#C6 reckons that the post facelift cars (MY 2009) are all CR - judging by the numbers the log book should tell you - 103kW => PD, 100kW/125kW => CR

There are a good few 2009 PD engined ones knocking around here but not sure about the UK. Facelifted model is definately CR.

I have the CR 2009 170bhp 2.0 diesel. I have had NO problems with it my cousin has a 2007 and he has had trouble mainly as he doesn't drive the car far enough to get it warm.

If it has rear LED lights it the new facelifted A6. Great car.

Simpler way - round foglights = pre-facellift (PD engine), rectangular foglights = facelift (CR engine). :)
