    Hi Guys,

Basically I'm looking for the smallest dish I can get away with to pick up Astra2. I'm moving to a new apartment soon and all that appears to be available UPC. I simply reuse to pay good money for a sub standard service like that. Anyway I disgress. So what i need to establish:

    1. Whether i have line of sight to 28.2. I not 100% sure and I'd like to be able to test this before i purchase a dish. Is there any easy way to do this.
    2. Looking for the Cheapest small discrete dish I can get. I've seen the Multimo and Arcon Sweety. They both look good but are quite dear for what you are getting.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Many thanks

Hey, man, not sure I am really qualified to give you advice but thought i would share what I know. As for finding out whats 28.2 direction. A compass should be able to tell you. So by standing in your apartment with it ... you should know if you can or cannot do it.

But you are right to not want to pay for UPC. Its a rip off. Since you want to go down the route of having a discreet dish .. why not also think about Soarview to get the free irish channels. As stupid as this may sound, and something you ideally shouldnt do. But I was hooking one up for my brother a few weeks ago. While testing it I put it by the window (inside and couch level) and got a amazing signal (obviously thats just my area tho)

    But is an option.
You could always get a combo box if you can put up a discreet dish too.

Would want to be getting one of these:
    http://www.satellitetv.ie/shop/index.php?controller=product&path=20&product_id=265
or the one I have the selfsat. The latter was about 180 euro which was not cheap but it doesnt look like a satellite and is a nice size.

You can use this to check if your apartment has line of sight to Astra.

Just put in your location and set the satellite to 28.2E. You can then zoom in and drag the pointer to your apartment or house.

Have a look at this thread http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=72748809#post72748809

Different satellite but same principle. It's pretty easy to hide a dish if you have a balcony,it doesn't need to be bolted to a wall so long as it can 'see' the satellite you can locate it pretty much anywhere.

Don't spend €180 on a dish for 28E, a rearrangement of the letters in the name of that website ('i-do-it') would apply in that case......

Thanks all, especially Paul. What a brilliant site. I think my line of sight might be screwed. The apt is down in a whole but I might get that app to check.

If I do manage to get it working what would you recommend in terms of cheap alternative small dishs?

    Thanks
