Played with MIUI and I gotta say its nice in a lot of ways. A few people I know swear by it and now its getting a pretty big beast of a phone for itself  (Good price too!)
Popular Android aftermarket firmware MIUI gets its own superphone

Yesterday we had a popular Android-aftermarket-firmware-developer land a job with Samsung and today we have a new Android headset announced that will ship with one of the most popular aftermarket firmwares. MIUI (pronounced “mee-you-eye”) is one of the most downloaded Android ROMs in the world and they just held a live streaming broadcast to reveal the MI-ONE smartphone. The entire broadcast was in Chinese, so we are glad a MIUI blog post detailed the specifications.

    Specs of the MI-One include:

    Android 2.3.5 with unlocked bootloader
    4inch screen at 480 x 854 res
    Dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S3 (MSM8260)
    4GB ROM
    1GB RAM
Up to 32GB Micro-SD card support
    8MP Rear Camera
    1930mA battery
GPS (U.S. GPS and Russian GLONASS)
    Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity
    266MHz Adreno220 GPU
    125 * 63 * 11.9 (mm)
    149g weight
    GSM / WCDMA

I’m not sure of the exact relation between the MIUI blog and the Chinese startup Xiaomi that develops it, but we are relying on the blog until we see an official press release.

The phone will likely never be released in the US, but it’s still interesting to see what they are up to. With all the hardware companies buying up software companies (and vis versa), it will be interesting to watch MIUI and see if they gain more attention.

Check out the preview of MIUI Beta 7 below and let me know how you think it compares with MOTOBLUR, TouchWiz, and Sense UI. There had been rumors of MIUI teaming up with Samsung, Motorola, or LG, so it will be interesting to see how today’s news plays out.

Update: Richard Lai of Engadget reports the device is being called the “Xiaomi Phone”, sell for ¥1,999 ($310), and will be available for pre-order on August 29th for October delivery. Hit up his post for additional pictures.
