Simulator Stats

    Hey guys,

Gonna be hitting one of the those simulators tonight and it gives the following details

"On-screen statistics give instant feedback on every shot you hit, including ball flight, distance travelled in air, total distance, launch angle, ball speed and spin, distance to pin, deviation from target line and many more."

I am looking to focus specifically on my driving so I was wondering if someone can give me some pointers as to what I should be looking for in terms of stats and what they mean.
Are there optimum launch angles etc to watch for or are there things that should show up as red lights to me ?

    thanks

(My pro is away hence the need to rely on technology in case anyone points out I shoudn't be doing this myself :D)

Those simulators are pretty accurate, i used one in golfnation in carlow last weekm, distances are v accurate and if you cut or hook it at all it will show up exactly how much, i was getting ball speeds in the region of 155 to 160mph with the driver, cant remember launch angles or anything now but it gives them all anyway :)

Alx, where are you getting that done, would love to do it, is there anywhere in Cork does anyone know or is that a standard thing that they use when fitting you for a club/shaft?

    Place called unigolf in Limerick
I'm not getting fit (though I'd like to) - just need to work on my driving and there is no range nearby

The Pro Shop on the South Douglas Road have a simulator ssbob. At least they had when I got a driver from them 3 or 4 years ago.

Cheers Denis, I remember being in there about 2-3 years ago but was only taking up the game then and didn't really know a putter from a driver:D so I may not have taken any notice, must take a glance over there on Friday or Sat maybe!!

Ya ssbob was gonna say the same as denis. They did def have simulator in south douglas road.
To be honest with you and its each to there own but for me id only go somewhere that i can see the entire flight of ball and just have the data to see how well ball is hit regards ball speed and swing speed.
You do hear stories of those machines being jacked up to give better readings and stats.
How true that is i dont know.

Well Pinseeker if you can tell me the secret which you seem to have found then I will not need to go to any of these places!!! :D

My ball flight is quite high and I reckon I put a lot of spin on the ball with my driver because I have no control in the wind!

The secret ssbob is hit as far as i can and go find it and do the same.:D
Hi balloning ball flight is last thing you want in wind at your track ssbob.
Really could be as simple as shaft change, stiffer tip maybe low kickpoint to keep flight down.
Fota is good place to try out shafts and drivers as you will see entire ball flight. If you have the bobs to spare that is.Think it 50 for driver and they take that off if purchasing.
Other than that just hit driver off the deck on tee box haha:D

TBH if it helped I don't mind spending the money, too often have I spent stupid money on stupid gimmicks in golf and otherwise..........ya Blarney is windy alright, but in saying that in the downwind my ball goes a mile because the wind hangs onto it in the air!

Would you believe was only thinking the same when read your post that down wind it is prob the job.For me tho its better to have mid flight with driver and down wind i can always just tee it high and let it fly so to speak. That way you have options either way and better roll out with mid flight also.
Guess its something to think about and if holes into wind really causing issue then option is there to adress it you know.

Will head down to Fota maybe in a couple of weeks and see if I need a new shaft.

I just swapped out my stock matrix ozik 4.8 ultra feckin light shaft as my drives were balooning, got a nice Aldila NV 75 X last week fitted and its working very nicely for me, and ive gained distance :)

So had a go on it and firstly it does not have ball spin stats which was disappointing.
So what did I learn ? - well my drives don't go much further than my 3 wood but have a much higher dispersion.
So until such time as I get a lesson on the driver specifically and figure out exactly what I'm doing I should use the 3 wood

Drive average was around 230-235 total distance
3 wood was coming in at 220-225 total distance
Launch angle was around 12-13 average for both
