    Hey lads/ladies,
First time posting in the golf section as I only got back into the game after nearly 3 years of playing other sports. I played a good bit thru my teens. I'm only back about 4 weeks but the addiction has already caught hold :P I've been pretty happy with how i've played since i've got back, mainly shooting in the low to mid 80's. This time around i'd really like to get into competitive golf so i'm taking the dive and I'm looking at joining my first club. The one that has really got my attention has been South County. What i'd like to know is how are they when it comes to young players coming into the club? Is it quite cliquey or are the teams/comps open to new members? I just turned 23 by the way. I would really appreciate anyones advice that is, or has been a member. Even better if you are around my age :P I'm looking to bring my game up a few gears and from playing South County a few weeks ago it looks like a great place for it.
    Cheers.

Ps. I was also considering Dublin Mountain GC as it is extremely good value but the lack of facilities and a fairly open course have me thinking otherwise. I have a mate that is a member there and I have never had a bad experience there to be honest so there are pro's to the cons.

    but...

Membership is now closed for all PNM (Parent Non Member) juvenile, junior and student membership applicants as we have reached our maximum quota in all these categories.

5 day and 7 day options, along with the 2012 wrap in packages are still available as well as the exceptional value of 7 Day membership for Under 30's.

It is our goal to close off these other categories due to reaching our maximum quotas also and slots are filling up fast.

So for membership details please contact Michael at 01 4582965 or michael@southcountygolf.ie and apply today.

Great club, load of comps and friendly members. I played for the club this year and got on well with all team members, none of whom I previously knew

It's a no brainer compared to Dublin Mountain

    Thanks for the reply Whyner.
I have actually been talking to Michael the last few days about different options. He has been really helpful and by the look of things i have figured out the option that's right for me. I'm hoping to finalise a few details in the next few days and if all goes well on my complimentary round on Thursday and look around the club i will be joining up in the next 2 weeks or so :D
I was just looking for some advice from someone that has had experience with the club.

If you decide to join, send me a pm and we'll play a round.

The facilities are top class. Driving range, pitching area with bunker, chipping area and of course a putting area.

There's changing rooms with good showers (free towels) and the barfood is good quality, nice bar with good views of the 18th and outdoor patio for those so called hot days

I joined on my own and love it up there now, there's a few other lads on here who play in SC also.

Joined here in the last few weeks and enjoying it very much. Great set up with the online system for tee times and doesn't seem to be particularly cliquey... I don't know anybody up there but just put my name down for the comps freely. It seems to be the done thing to a large extent. So far so good.

Not exactly a no brainer given the financial climate !

I would say join the Mountain for the rest of the year, get your handicap sorted play a few of the open days and then see what offers are going in the new year !

I'm a member at South County & think the place is top notch, best decision I ever made.

Rather than repeat what I said about SC on a different thread recently, here's the link for my opinion:

I've never played Dublin Mountain tbh, however my boyfriend has & for him it's no contest between the 2 clubs.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm playing South County tomorrow evening so if all goes well i'll be joining up in a week or so.
I actually really like Dublin Mountain and i think the staff are very nice. I just want to give myself the best chance of really improving my game and I think South County will be a better place to do that because of the facilities and tighter course.
Thanks again for all your input and i'm sure i'll see some of you up there in the future :)
