Very early Rolex Oyster by the looks of it. 1920's? Very high grade movement. The "Extra Prima"mark a sure sign. And the adjusted to 6 positions*. Odd it's not jeweled to the centre. Pity the dial is without Rolex Oyster. All the parts look correct though. Either way very nice watch and a piece of Rolex history. Certainly worth a few quid. Gun to my head? I'd say around 3500-4000 euro to replace it with similar. Maybe more because it's gold. Though IMHO still undervalued compared to the often mad prices of later Rolex models. They're quite small on the wrist which probably drags the price down. Lovely watch though.

*Contrary to popular very early Rolex watches are pretty lacklustre in the movements for the most part IMHO. Other mainstream makes where often far superior. Rolex was very good at marketing from the get go and with the introduction of the Oyster case coupled with higher quality they deservedly began to build the rep they have today

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I have something similar, a watch my Father inherited and passed along to me. I wonder if I should have it serviced/repaired or if that would wreck it.

The case is pretty worn but the watch runs well. I had the local jewellers clean and regulate it when I got it, they were Rolex agents years ago.

This picture is not great, the hands are a blued metal colour in reality. The crown screws in and locks, the case back is plain metal with no writing on it.

Any suggestions as to how I should care for this one would be appreciated.
