On the Colaiste Ida website - the first course is a level 5, the second is a level 6, not sure which one you are looking at.

    A higher cert is a level 6.

    This diagram explains it: http://www.nqai.ie/FanDiagram/nqai_nfq_08.html

Either way, contact DIT and they'll be able to give you more info.

Both, as in I do the level 5 then progress to 6. I have emailed DIT but got no reply yet. Just phoned and got no answer aswell

The diagram confuses me :P looking at it, I gather that a level 6 fetac is the same as a higher cert(just awarded by different people).

On the DIT website it says higher cert or equivalent. Thats why I assume the level 6 would do.

For the info of other people you can go from a fetac 6 to level 7.

    Dear Sean,

    Thank you for your mail.

You would have to complete a level 6 programme to meet the requirements for Advanced Entry into DT080.
If you are successful with the level 6 please apply through our Advanced Entry online system.

    Kind regards

The level 6 indicates the 'level of complexity' so anyone who achieves a (FETAC) Advanced Cert at level 6 has demonstrated similarly complex knowledge, skills etc as someone achieving a Higher Cert at level 6 BUT they are different qualifications - it is always worth checking with your proposed next college / employer IF they regard the two qualifications as different. Arguably, they probably should not but it is in your interest to know for definite in advance.
    :)
