Problem involving going out for results night

I am going to a nightclub for Leaving Cert results night on wednesday.

Problem is I am very shy and although I talk to and have great fun with my schoolmates during the year I never have the confidence to ask if I can keep in touch with them, come to my house or whatnot.

So on wednesday morning in my school it will be my first time meeting most of them all summer.

I had an argument with my brother the other week because he asked me who I was going to the club with. I just said it was with all of my year but then he started freaking out accusing me of going alone when that was not my intention at all. He is really overprotective of me in that way and it was impossible for me to convince him I wasn't going alone.

Now I'm in a dillema, I need to ask friends in my year on wednesday morning if I can go with them. Problems, firstly I don't know how to ask that without sounding gay, also I feel its kinda awkward when we will all be in the club that night anyway.

So any advice, I know this is an unusual problem but I would love to hear what I can do about finding a way around it.

    Hi,
All you need to do is say "So lads, what's the plan for later, where are we meeting up?" It's not gay at all, they won't just magically appear in one place, they will all have been asking each other and making arrangements. You're bound to either go to a pub or someone's house first, nights out don't generally start in nightclubs, so show interest and you'll be part of the gang without even noticing it's happened. Make sure you have a few of their phone numbers too.
As for your brother, the reaction does sound a bit odd but it's probably just that he knows you're a bit shy and is worried that you may have to go out on your own. If you're really stuck, which you definitely won't be, go for a drink with him and then you can meet the rest of the gang.
Just go for it and ask where they're meeting, enjoy and good luck with the results!

Ask one or two of them are they going to a pub first for one drink? At least that way, you will meet up with someone you know at a specific time.

Thanks I think I might do that. I have one great friend whose number I have. Would it be ok if when me and him are in a group of people I ask that question or would there be any situation at all where it would seem awkward?

The only thing making it awkward is you feeling awkward about it. It's perfectly normal to chat about plans for a night out either in a group or with one single person. All you need to do is relax and talk to your friends about it. If they know you're not usually into going out but are making the effort for this night they'll probably be very welcoming about it. Everyone will be in good form about the results anyway! :)

Give your friend a text or say it to him whenever you see him and ask what the plans are for heading out. Usually things will start off in someone's house or in a pub beforehand so perhaps mention a few beers before you head out. A text might read something like "hey ____! what's the plan for headin out wednesday night? meeting for a few beers beforehand and then on to _____?"

Your brother is probably just worried about you going out on your own. Once you know the plans tell him where you'll be meeting the group. You could even get him to give you a lift to the pub or whoever's house (if he drives).

Good luck with the results and enjoy your night out! :D
