Okay, might sound a bit mad. Is it possible to import and tax/insure ex army vehicles in Ireland?

I've seen them pop up from time to time on adverts and donedeal, but some are quite cheap...

    Like this fellow:

    Bit childish, I know... :)

Couldn't really find anything via google... Looking more at land rovers to be honest!

Try www.clri.net Landrover club as they seem to have a very good website with lots of info...

Oh! Wonderful! But really... On a slightly serious note about the tank, how would you get one over here? Someone must have experience in this matter. :)

It's been done! Probably easier to get it road registered in the UK first (although the DVLA are getting very funny with tracked vehicles now).

If it's a Land Rover or other more practical vehicle, look at the classifieds of www.milweb.net, loads for sale plus links to every military dealer.

If you go to Witham's site (where you got the 432 pic) they have some newly released Tithonus 110s that were only fully refurbished in the last 4-5 years for £5000. They have a load of Snatch 110s if you live somewhere dodgy ;)

A bit closer to home, search for the UMVC website, the lads up north have quite a few vehicles. Not much military available down here although I know of a very nice 101 for sale (not mine!)

Plenty of Hauliers will be more than willing to do it. I know plenty of lads that could do it.:)

I must say I would love to play with it for a few weeks...:D

If you get onto a company called Protac in the Curragh army camp, the owner has brought in a few ex army vehicles and will put you right. He's a sound bloke and is only mad to talk army with anyone.

There are several pieces of armour over here and their owners are members on here I think. There's a couple of eastern bloc vehicles and a 432, 434 and a Chieftain. Also at least 3 Panhard armoured cars.

that's amazing! Can you actually drive them on the road? I mean, would you have to pay damages if they occured?

Edit: as in, if they had tracks.

In the UK you can as long as the road isn't damaged, most modern AFVs have rubber pads on the tracks. Some are too big to register though, no idea what the rules are here.

The CVR(T) series (Scorpion, Scimitar etc) make an ideal private tank for the road, compact and will do 60mph :D

You are a wealth of information! Thank you very much! I only realised I'll probably need a class D licence for these vehicles though!

There's a forum for those with similar afflictions http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/
