Very local Census Results

I'm curious as to what level of detail the public can avail of when it comes to census results. I can see the national, provincial and county results but they're all far too large for what I'm looking for. I'm wondering is it possible to get results by town? Purely interested in the numbers.
Sorry if this is in the wrong place!

I'm pretty sure I read that the census results that have been released so far are only preliminary. You'll probably have to wait a bit to get more detailed data from the census.

I've seen the 2011 preliminary alright.
    But from 2006 or 2002?

Surely the best thing to do would be to email the CSO and see if you can get detailed results for the area you're interested in?

They used to have neighborhood-level data online. Then they changed the website or something because I haven't been able to find it since.

Good luck contacting them; I found them to be extremely unhelpful in past interactions.

SAPS also known as small area population statistics are the smallest unit in Ireland although the last time I looked they were still being developed. That was 2009 though so maybe they're up and running. ED's or electoral districts were/are the standard unit of spatial measurement but obviously they are spatially larger and non-uniform when compared to SAPS.
