    Lads,

Just moved into a new place in Limerick and it has two dishes on the gable end. I've attached a picture of these as I am very new to this stuff and don't know my arse from my elbow.

Can anyone tell me if there is a quick, easy and cheap way to hook one of these up to some freeview box or something like that? Or am I in over my head?

Bear in mind I don't have a ladder to move these.

The tv is a panasonic viera.

the one on top is a mmds (aerial thingy)For upc , no good for anything except upc.
the sat dish should be fine to use if you get a satellite receiver, old sky box will do to get you going.

Neither of those will give you the Irish channels without a subscription to Sky or UPC, a terrestrial aerial will be required for the Irish channels free.

A freesat receiver attached to the dish cable will give the freesat channels.

    Thanks for this.

Assuming the previous satellite dish was set up for sky, is it likely to be pointing in the correct way for the freesat channels? or will I have to get up there and fiddle with it?

Assuming it's was used for Sky previously it'll work OK for freeast, same satellite location used for both.

Assuming it hasn't moved no fiddling required.

Easiest way would be to trace back along the coax coming from the satellite dish to see where it comes into the house.....then it's just a case of connecting that to a FreeSat receiver or Sky Box.

If the dish is setup for sky then it will give you the freesat channels, the top aerial is a mmds aerial used for chorus.

    Thanks lads.

I bought the Freesat receiver and it works a treat.

The only thing I'm missing is the few irish channels. Any advice on this? Will I have to get the ariel? Or can they be streamed?

Ferguson Ariva 10 combo would have been a better bet @ €81 for both UK and Irish on one receiver. Too late.

Go to magnetwebtv and get the Irish channels streamed till you sort an ariel.;)

Asuming you're in Limerick city that MMDS mesh antenna on the pole should be pointing north to Woodcock Hill with the co-ax cable going into the living room.

If so pop down to UrlanTV on Clare St and get yourself a Group B aerial, borrow a ladder, snip the cable to the MMDS mesh and mount the aerial on the same pole and point it in the same direction. That should give you the 4 analogue channels and the Saorview DTT channels if you have a Saorview TV or STB.

    Nice one, thanks.

I can tell you just by looking at the photo that the aerial is pointing to Keeper hill not woodcock where the Rte mast is.

    @heybert

steveon would appear to be correct in which case point the aerial towards Woodcock Hill north/north west of the city and not in the same direction of the MMDS aerial.
