Yes, its the direction of the dish - there are various guides referred to on earlier threads advising how to position your dish

    This might be useful, http://www.dishpointer.com.

It's Google based & if you can zoom in close to your location it will show identifiable landmarks to help with aiming your dish.

Also shows elevation & LNB skew.

If you are getting the German channels you are probably on Astra 1 at 19.2 east or Hotbird at 13 east so you are only a few inches away from astra 2 at 28. east and the english channels. Best thing to do is either buy a meter and move it the few inches that it needs to go yourself. Or ring the local installers or a friend and tell them it's a 5 minute job .

Even though you are getting sky news on astra 2 , you actually are probably getting it from astra 1 it's on that as well, but somebody might have done a search with astra 2 on the receiver. The receiver would show it as being on Astra 2 because the search will pick up whatever is on the satellite you are pointing at, even though it's actually coming from astra 1.

If you are asked for a code when you go into the menus, it is 0000.

Are you using an existing dish or one you erected yourself? This should have been the 1st question asked, as you may be connected to a multifeed dish.

If the receiver has been idle for a while, the channel frequencies will be out of date. Try an auto scan on Astra 2 or scan each transponder manually.

    Find the freqs. here.

Thanks everyone - I'll get 'my man' up on the roof again at the weekend and try to correctly align the dish ... will let you know how that goes.

it took a bit of persuasion, but he eventually repositioned the dish and hey presto, it works !!! thanks everyone for your help.
one final question - any ideas how to unscramble rte, tg4, tv3 ?? i thought these would be 'free' too ??!!

On Astra @ 28E, you need a Sky sub to view the Irish channels.

To get them free, you can try a roof aerial for Saorview/analogue terrestrial, though you may need a Saorview box if your tv is incompatible with this service. Analogue will be switched off in just over a year's time, I would think.

Saorsat from Kasat @ 9E is currently testing but will not work with the SL45 receiver & probably not with your current dish if you want to also keep 28E; a new lnb will be needed at least.

Hi. Does anyone know why the Silvercrest box may have suddenly dropped channels (children's) all of a sudden yet still broadcasts all the other ones. Just says "no signal" for one's like Tiny Pop etc.

They've changed frequency, you will have to retune them.

On the SL45 box, it's menu -> installation -> tp scan & enter the frequency 11,307 mHz, vertical polarisation, symbol rate 27,500, then scan for free channels.

They moved transponder in the past couple of weeks. On 11307 V 27500 now. http://www.flysat.com/28east.php Use that link to check frequencies, changes, etc.
