No BTEA for Masters Degree students :(

I just found out that I will NOT be entitled to a back to education allowance because the course I want to do is a Masters!

You would think in this day in age were a lot of people are going back to education they wouldn't exclude masters students!

I had wondered about this, I was told by a friend to look into BTEA for my PHD next year but the site said only as far as HDip which i have. She was sure that there was no upper limit on it, it must be new???

I've no idea! I was onto social welfare today about it. She said it may change in the future! It seems unfair.

Just looking at the studentfinance site and I can't see where it says that at all. I have a feeling the lady at the social welfare office got this wrong!

Postgraduate courses

You may get the Back to Education Allowance for a postgraduate course of study that leads to a Higher Diploma (H.Dip.) qualification in any discipline or a Graduate Diploma in Education (primary and secondary teaching). Other types of postgraduate qualifications are not recognised for BTEA.

You will not get BTEA if you already have a postgraduate qualification.
