I began a masters in 1998 after getting a degree in History, but did not complete it due to a change in family circumstances.

In 2006 I began a part-time Law degree which I paid for myself and graduated with a first after 4 years. I was offered a place in Trinity to do an LLM but have been told this week by County Council that I am not entitled to a grant because even though it has been over ten years since I dropped out of the Masters, that because I did a night-time, self-financed Law degree that I am no longer a second chance student.
Does this mean that a second chance student can only do a postgraduate course with reference to the original undergraduate course. Surely this goes against the spirit of "second chance"?
Any advice would be much appreciated, I am devastated as I will have to turn down the LLM if I do not get funding.
    Thanks
