Can we all please talk about this here?

I think he will, I also think 2 games is stupid to write people off.

What's wrong with the United thread ? Also hasn't he only played two games so far ?

There is a definitive answer for this but unfortunately it's in 2013.

We've had 400 posts on it on the United thread in 1 days. Seems to be a hot topic.

we're fed up with 20 pages on this crap - at least we can ignore it if it is in this thread. And oppo supporters that don't want to get involved either can ignore it to.

I fully believe he will make it at Manutd.

Anyone who writes a player off after two games is clearly clueless.

    Enough is enough
    No I have not.

    You're claiming the following:

    - That David de Gea hasn't done sh1te in his first two competitive games for United.

    - That if de Gea has shockers against Spurs and Arsenal, there's no chance that he'll be dropped.

    - That if he is dropped, it won't be hard for him to recover from the experience.

    - That if he never recovered from the above experience, his United career wouldn't be over.

Based on the above I have to ask you whether you know anything about football?
I'm not a Jamie Redknapp fan (because of the banal rubbish he spouts), but he's spot on there.

You need to calm down. Why would Jamie Redknapp speaking the truth make you "p1ssed off"?
Yes it could, because he mightn't recover from the mental scar tissue arising as a result of four consecutive horror shows.

You're dismissing my posts as if I'm claiming that the Earth is flat.

How has de Gea done so far? Sh1te

If he continues to be sh1te and costs us points against Spurs and Arsenal, is there a chance that he might be dropped? Of course there is.

In the event that he's dropped for turning in horrow shows for his new club, will that be tough to recover from? Yes

If he didn't recover from his horror start to his United career, would that end his United career? Yes

You're dismissing the above chain of events as if there's absolutely no chance of them taking place. That's just naive.
    Hi newballsplease

    I can't agree with you.

You say that you don't think that he's done to bad since his arrival - That's a wild statement. He was poor against City and he was terrible yesterday. It's just not credible to say that he hasn't done badly. He has done badly.

My point is that in the event that he has two more shockers against Spurs and Arsenal, he'll almost have to be dropped. He may then never recover for the trauma of his start with United, thus ending his career. I'm not saying that his career is over...I'm saying that if X and Y happen, it could be over. What I'm saying is not beyonds the realms of possibility.
    Hi nicklauski

    Why is that sh1te?

If de Gea has two more shockers against Spurs and Arsenal, it's not "sh1te" to suggest that he may be dropped and may never recover from the horrendous start to his United career. It may or may not happen, but to brand it "sh1te" is ridiculous. Based on what we've seen so far, it's a strong possibility. Do you think that the fact that de Gea has been terrible in his first two games for United makes him more or less likely to have a shocker against Spurs? Unfortunately I believe that it's the former.

    Hi GK

I don't agree with you. To brand David de Gea's first two competitive games for United anything other than a disaster is ridiculous. You might as well claim that he wasn't a disaster because he showed up on time, was wearing the right kit and remembered to lace up his boots. He was f..king terrible. I can't believe that people are disputing that. I understand that people believe that he'll improve and that long term he may be world class but I genuinely can't believe that people are claiming that he was anything other than a disaster in the City and West Brom games.
How have our goalkeepers done for us to date?

    Lindegaard - Fine

    de Gea - Disastrously

Who should start against Spurs and Arsenal, matches where more David de Gea clangers could conceivably cost us the league?

Of course Lindegaard should start. If we want to win those games, the right decision is to pick Lindegaard.
That's head in the sand stuff.

We beat City and West Brom DESPITE David de Gea's presence in the side.

Needs to lose the facial hair, all his best performances with AMadrid and Spain Youths were when he was cleanshaven.

Should be loaned out to New York Cosmos, If he can make it there, he can make it anywhere.

I think the OP wanted to start this thread to keep the discussion out of the super thread .

But even at that its the most ridiculous question to be asked on this forum in a long time.

Close the thread its an embarrassment to boards.ie/soccer and to every football supporter regardless of team .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,313 ✭✭✭AstonMartin

I hope so because he is fundamentally sh1te.

Im going back to kicking the arsenal folk but you will see me again the next time he fcuks up.

Needs to lose the facial hair

    This.

Nothing inspires confidence in a forward like facing a goal keeper with a bad teenage beard.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 862 ✭✭✭Vudgie

He looked good anythime I saw him playing for Athletico and he is highly thought of in Spain so I'd say he will come good. Some of the challenges on him yesterday were over the top too.

I have to agree with Jamie Redknap's assertion (I know, I know!) that he isn't physically commanding and doesn't look anywhere near the 6ft 4" that is quoted for him, though that may be due to his slight frame.

To be fair he shouldn't be beaten by that... Not by a long shot.

Not with those sideburns he wont!

On a more serious note, I for one, welcome the return of Masimo Taibi to Old Trafford.

Only if Liverpool somehow manage to pip us to 4th, Wenger's qualifed 14 years in a row. I reckon he'll make that at least 15.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,117 ✭✭✭✭Leiva

    Yes .

    Lucas is shiite aswell .

    Arsene is finished .

Barcelona are boring to watch .

Rafa's net spend is ridiculous .

Oh and SAF and UTD are finished aswell .

 ... another super dooper epic fail of a thread

And i cant believe "x in the city" didn't start this thread .

With goalkeepers it's all about confidence and getting off to a good start would have improved that confidence. He looks like a very good keeper from what i've seen of him in Spanish football. I'm from the football old school and believe a player (any position) should be given time to settle and by that i mean at least 6 months. Thing is the modern game does'nt afford players the chance to settle in and of course the price tags never help. Imo he will be United's numero uno for years to come once he gets a few games under his belt.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,989 ✭✭✭Noo

Whether he'll make it or not i dont know, but i would like to thank him for taking all the goalkeeper focus away from arsenal :D

  • Moderators, Regional East Moderators Posts: 23,238 Mod ✭✭✭✭GLaDOS

He's only 20, in goalkeeping terms he's still a baby. If united stick with him long term I'm sure he'll prove himself.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

The only thing more ridiculous than the question is the raging 2 1/2 day debate between one poster and the rest hence the necessity for this thread.

Under normal circumstances this would never have been created.

Doesn't look suited to the PL. Not physical/commanding enough, and dodgy on long shots. And with a relatively inexperienced back four infront of him while Rio is out (and possibly Vidic), added to a couple of difficult fixtures for Utd, the next 2 or 3 weeks could make or break him.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 18,809 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kimbot

Honestly only time will tell. He is only young and he will be prone to mistakes. He has to get used to the defence around him too.

Yesterday he showed indecisivness a few times and that is only human to be fair.

Lets leave this one until the end of the year at least.

No need for a seperate thread on this.
