partition free space?

    Hi.

    edit - Is it as simple as adding a volume in disk utility? (this when applied will partition that volume too?)

    This is my only and therefore main disk, I am wary it is this simple and wont screw everything up.

    It is a single mac os extended (journaled) disk.

    Disk Utility can do this without deleting the contents of the drive. Just go into the Partitions tab and click the plus button. However, I still consider partitioning on the fly to be very risky, so don't attempt this unless you have a backup.

    Thanks. hmm this is what I was afraid of. I could easily backup, but it would be such a PITA if I have to re-install.

    Have you ever cloned an osx image and restored from it? That would make it much easier.
