    Hi people.

Please view the Pic as I explain when I need...

I'm looking to get a NAS drive (x-drive in the pic) that has both a USB and a network port. What I want to know, is if there will be any issues if this is connected to my USB media player (WD HD TV) while it is also connected to the Network switch.

The ideal situation is that I can update the media on the NAS drive from the comfort of my laptop(across the network), and then be able to play it from the USB media player without having to fiddle with swapping cables and the like.

Do you think that this will work? Can both devices be connected at the same time?

if so can you recommend a NAS box that does this? something around 2 TB

    Thanks!

Dont think twill work for you, I have an Freecom NAS drive here and it will only work with one or the other not both at the same time, Although it has to be said that the Freecom drive is a few years old.

I am going to throw this one out there for you.

Sell your existing media player and buy a networkable media player such as a WD TV Live you can then connect an external hard drive (any size) to the new media player this will act as a NAS device.

Total cost around €85.00 for the media player and another €60.00 - €80.00 for the hard drive, less whatever you get for your existing player.

Another added bonus is that you will be able to stream Youtube, Online TV & Radio to your new media player

    Thanks for the input,

Yes this is definitely another option that I am considering..

I could also get a DNLA supported NAS, as my TV supports DNLA (although I'm not too confident about file type support with this option)?

I guess the best option would be to get the WD HD Live box (basically upgrade my existing one). That way I could stream stuff from a NAS, and they are fantastic with different formats.

Like I said above, you do not need a NAS with the WDTV live; Plug in any USB storage device into the WDTV live and you can map and use it like a NAS

Oh Wow, that's a feature that I didn't know about. Thanks for the info!

Think this is the route I'll be taking.
