Guys I would apreciate your opinions on this. Car I'm looking at has 100k miles which seems excessive to me.

Suppose if it's excessive to you don't look at any more.

If its 2 y.o. it should be showing kms, not a huge amount for the likes of a busy rep.

Or that it's an English import which probably means it's done 100k miles on good quality roads. So if it has a good service history and it's priced accordingly, I can't see why not. Just remember if you're going to clock up big mileage again the resale will be hit.

Care to share your personal experiences??

IMO, they're not a bad car, just not as good as a mondeo in terms of handling/interior quality plastics/ design etc.

But they're well built, very well equipped, good space and reliable. the miles (if it is miles, not KM's) seems a bit high to me but if there's a good history and the price is right you should be ok

The car the OP is talking about is @ 109 miles/177k km's. I'm half looking at it myself. Good looking facelift version. Improved again interior.

I drive a 06 myself, no major problems yet after 87k of my own km's! I think for the money they are a descent alternative to the mondeo market. Comfortable interior, nice leather seats, good spec, solid diesel engine. One of the negatives on i think the parkers review is 'dull exterior styling', but line it up beside a mondeo or a passat & it's obviously a null argument. They're just as bad, or the sonata is just as good, which ever way you want to look at it!

    Rubbish.

They are a good car. Very reliable, acceptable to drive and well equipped.

The things that go against them are the fiddly radio that looked very aftermarket which was fitted when new and the fact they depreciate like a stone

Very popular as taxi's so that could also explain the mileage.

As for being a sh*tbox, rubbish. A family friend has an 07 2.0crdi auto one as a taxi with over 140,000 kms on it and all its needed was an egr valve which, as modern diesels go, is very reliable. Well equiped and well made too.

Some can suffer various issues but no more or less then any other equivelant car.

I'm trying to think of issues with my own to give the OP heads up about what to expect but there's very little.

I had a motor acutator on one door go. Not to expensive fix. Handbrake has been a little bit fussy at times but nothing major.

Timing belt change is 60k miles/100k km. So it will need to be done again soon enough by the looks of it.

It's been recommended i do the DMF with the clutch change(just as precaution). I managed to source genuine parts, full clutch kit plus DMF for about 680, so ill hopefully be able to do the whole lot for less than a grand. The dmf hasn't actually gone though, im at 97k miles/156k km's. DMF argument is same as any diesel though.

A friend has one. I've been in it a few times.

I quite like it actually. High seating position, well specced. Quiet enough too.

I've no idea what it's like economy wise (it's an auto) and it's not a place to be if you need to be pushing on a bit on windy roads. It rolls about a bit.

On that note actually im consistently hitting 6.5L/100km(~43mpg) on my manual.

Maybe they've improved recently but those big Korean cars were always many years behind their German and Japanese counterparts. Or maybe I'm just a badge snob. :)

Things have moved on VERY quickly with Hyundai and KIA. Went for a look at the i40 on Saturday with a buddy and was VERY impressed. It's a suprisingly good car!

Never knew they were on sale in Ireland. I'd say they are waiting for the saloon to come before marketing them properly. They look very well

I don't have one but I think you should only give advice to people when you know what you're talking about.

Or maybe your living in the past. Many German cars aren't as reliable as models of old, most of the Japanese cars we get here aren't Japanese at all and Korean cars are now right up on the same level as their euro/japanese counterparts.

I would be inclined to agree with this, however a local taxi driver I am friendly with bought an 06 Sonata with 76k kms on it, he only had it for 4 months and the gearbox started giving serious bother. There was 87k on it when it was changed, serious dosh to sort.

His old car was a Passat, which had a million billion miles on it, so I am in 2 minds as to whether or not he was to blame, could have been an unsympathetic previous owner. However this is not the first time I have heard of Hyundai gearboxes giving problems albeit rare. The new 5 year warranty is a step in the right direction though.

These cars (I'm told) are popular as taxis in Singapore and got a good rating in the JD Power stats.......

I would not be afraid of one......
