Considering buying a 2 seater Short Wheel Base Mitsubishi Pajero.

Going to restore it and have it as a second car under classic insurance.

Be ideal for when the bad weather comes with the 4 wheel drive plus I have always liked them and would like to have another one. I would be interested in bringing it to shows too.

I think I can insure it as classic as it would be over 20 years old and I have another car for everyday.

Its currently taxed as a commercial.

Would this present any problems and is my idea a good one in general?

How much does classic insurance cost by the way, a rough estimate would do for 25 year old with 7 years NCB.

You should be able to get insurance from the Irish Vintage Society.

The one above is a nissan patrol, with a rather lovely 4.2 straight 6 diesel.

To avoid trouble over driving a commercial vehicle as your private car you'd have to change the tax class to private. It may take some arguing to get an insurance company to cover it as a classic but you could give it a try. Insurance cost depends on a lot of factors not just your age.

Though on the subject of insurance for someone in their 20s and presumably male and private taxed 4x4s, opel/vauxhall fronteras and early to mid 90s landrover discovery seem to be about the cheapest full size 4x4s for that.

It looked unusual around the arches... its got a 4.2?

C'mon, what's the story with this then?

Campionins in association with IVETA will give you a classic policy for it.

It will be the most basic policy known to man but it will also be the cheapest

It is a 4.2 alright, but why is it unusual?

Most had 3.3lit, no? Did not think they had a 4.2.

It was a UK vehicle, so maybe that has some bearing on it?

No that model patrol with the big arches was offered with 4.2 and 2.8, the older slightly slimmer model had the 3.3 diesel, 3.0 petrol and 2.8 diesel, most that are left of that older model seem to be the 2.8s the 3.3s would pull a house down but were/are awful low and very low revving.

It's a bit unusual to see the 4.2 in ireland yes, but there are lots in the uk and australia. And to see that model with a 4.2 is not that unusual, most that people bring over here will be with that engine for the "WOW 4.2!!! " factor. They're very powerful in fairness. It was in competition with the 4.2 landcruisers so they had to make something with proper big engine.

but anyway we're not supposed to be on about patrols, pajeros were the original topic

Well, most of those you encounter will be uk ones, but the 3.3 vs 4.2 thing is to do with it being a later model
