The Engine you're thinking of is called the Cosworth BOA/BOB (the BOB was the later version). The one to get is the BOA, simply as it's easier to wire in. The BOA/BOB was always mated to auto transmission.

Ford being Ford, the BOA/BOB was based on the Cologne engine as fitted into the Cortina/Sierra/Granada/Transit/Capri etc. So, for a Sierra, you need to find Sierra V6 mounts and flywheel. Sump might have to change to an XR4i or XR4x4, I'm not sure. Gearbox can be a V6 Type 9 (weak when faced with the Cosworth) or a hybrid MT75 of V6 4x4 front half, 2.3 straight 4 tail end.

Think of it this way, you'll have to basically convert the 2.0 Sierra into a XR4i or XR4x4 under the bonnet and instead of dropping a 2.8/2.9 Cologne, drop in a BOA/BOB. It's quite common conversion on Cortina's and Carpi's. Corktina will know more no doubt.

Word of warning, not all 2.9 Granadas had the Cosworth engine. Most had the ol' pushrod Cologne.

You should actually talk to someone like Saff24v on everyfordireland, as his drift car is a sierra with 24v conversion.

If you were buying a whole sierra and didn't mind ending up with 5 stud wheels you could fit the granada cosworth's brakes as they're better than the sierra's. Wheels woudl then need to be 5x112 pcd same as mercs and big vws/audis.

Gearbox is a "hybrid" mt75, V6 bellhousing is needed to fit onto the 24v then a normal 4cylinder 2wd MT75 box.

If i'd known you were going to want to convert that sierra you got to a cosowrth 24v i could have pointed you in the direction of one that was already done, would have been cheaper than buying a tidy 2 litre and converting it. But you may have been put off that one as it's changed to 2.9 on the taxbook etc (which in my view is only right as at least then you have valid insurance etc, but must 24v sierras are 1.6 and 1.8s on the taxbook usually)

would a 2.9 granada hearse or limo have the cosworth engine? theres a few on dondeal at the minute

would this engine do the job or would i specifically have to get an engine form granada cosworth?

The Granada Cosworth is a rare beast. I've only ever seen three or four of them. The twin plenum 2.9 Cologne is the usual fitment for hearses and limos. If the car was a Granada Cosworth, it would be advertised as such.

I have never done the conversion, I only thought about it before, so bear that in mind....

With that said, I imagine that engine mounts and flywheel most certainly. Gearbox will fit, but will probably break under strain. If it was available, I'd take the whole car. you never know there might be something else needed. Also, the rear windows and spoiler were unique to the XR, so might be worth a bit. While you're there, grab the rear arms for the disc brakes and take the master cylinder. With the 24V up front, uprated brakes might help......

    Slightly off topic

The Cosworth 24V transplant seems to be a popular on the blue oval scene. Is it fair to say that virtually no 24V powered Granada’s will survive because of this. That this is a bigger threat to Granada survival than banger racing ???!!!

Some would say that it’s no more than the ugly ass Scorpio deserves (not me though, I like its dodgy looks)

use the mt75 gearbox because they stronger and the 2.9 flywheel.mt75 gearbox can be made up from a 2.9 4x4 bellholding and a 2ltr mt75 as 2ltr bellholding wont match the engine. 2.8 gearbox can be used too but wont last as they blow to bits with the boa engine! am restoring a mk1 granada at the min and puttin a boa engine in it.

Silly me! I assumed your Sierra was a Pinto/Type 9 combo! What gearbox does your car have?
