I've been to Cartagena. The Roman Theatre in Cartagena is worth seeing. There is also a museum on the spanish civil war whihc is okay. It's a nice twon. I cam't remember the name of the hill, but it gives great panoramic views of the town.

Spent 2 days in Cartagena, went camping there but there was not too much really to see. Spent a day in Murcia but nothing of note to see there either. I recommend to go to Alicante which is a bit further away and see it as it is a nice coastal city with a large marina, plaza mayor and variety of accomodation.

As for Murcia and Cartagena, the countryside is probably the best thing in this region. Didn't stay there too long so I would not recommend it as a place to stay for a week.

San Pedro del Pinatar is worth a visit - mud baths, salt lakes, great beaches and the Mar Menor, the largest salt water lagoon in Europe. Torrevieja is a really classy resort with a boardwalk and lovely beaches, parks and fountains. The most facinating city in that part of Spain is Elche, which has the largest palm forest in Europe as well as an interesting old town with lovely walks and parks. Enjoy!

Murcia is a lovely city, surprisingly large. Plenty of shops but not sure about night-life as I only ever visited during the daytime. Had the nicest espresso I've ever had there if thats any use.
