Moving on from Prescriptives

Having finally used the last of my Prescriptives foundation and other bits, I don't know where to go now for make up.

I was using All Skins Mineral Make up in Level Cool 2 and found it brilliant. I have eczema and it suited my skin very well.

Just wondering if anyone here was using Prescriptives and where did you go from there?

I have used Clinique in the past, tried a few of their different foundation options but never liked the feel of any of them on my skin.

I don't mind paying a bit extra for make up as I don't wear it very often so it tends to last me ages (> 6 months).

    Any replies appreciated.

(By the way I know you can get Prescriptives online but I don't have a credit card.)

    Is it gone from BTs?

Yeah, since the beginning of this year. Don't know of anywhere in Ireland that sells it now. Think the brand was struggling financially or something like that.

Why don't you buy a prepaid mastercard and use that to buy online?

Well aside from not actually having a credit card I think they are no longer making the products and are just selling what is left of the stock.

Oh crap. It was a good range, especially for sensitive skin. Expensive though.

Are you looking for a mineral foundation or a liquid foundation?

I never recommend Clinique. I don't like the brand. I think with your skin, you'd need to go in, get an application and see how it suits your face, wear it for the day and then decide. How about MAC, Make-up Forever or Laura Mercier?

I don't really mind if it's powder or liquid.

I don't want to offend anyone who wears MAC but i always associate MAC with really heavily applied OTT make up so i'm wondering if their foundations are quite heavy on the skin or if it's just the way i've seen it applied?

I've never heard of the other 2, are they available in BT as well?

just a tip, try getting a 3v card, you can buy vouchers for it to the value of wat you need, but it gives you a visa number to use online :) really handy for online shopping

i always thought that too, but it all depend on how much you put on, they match your skin tone and voila, when i went in she gave me shade 15, and was a bit shocked i was given shade 40 in uk:D

How about Vichy or la Roche Posay? I've found the latter really good for my sensitive skin, and a friend swears by Vichy for rosacea. They are specifically formulated for delicate skin and are available in most large pharmacies.

No, not everyone applies it that way but I can understand why people get that impression from MAC. (I used to work for them).

Make-up Forever is sold in Debenhams and in their stand alone shop on Clarendon Street. You can get Laura Mercier in BTs, yes.

    Two very good suggestions.

Pixie, I think you really need to try the product on before buying as if you've sensitive skin, any reaction won't show straight away and you could end up with an expensive bottle you can't use. I have never heard of anyone being turn away when asking for a sample to be put in a pot for them. Boots do little pots which you could bring in with you when having a look. :)

I reading their website last night. In the FAQs it states:

Where can I purchase Prescriptives products?
Prescriptives products are only available online, at Prescriptives.com, while supplies last.

Yeah, aside from my not having a credit card, that's another reason I didn't want to continue buying.

It's such a pity, it really was a great foundation brand, can't say much for their other cosmetics or skincare etc but their foundation was brilliant.

Yes, and it was started by a lady who had problem skin herself. I guess it just wasn't marketed properly. When someone says they've bad skin, they are usually sent to Clinique. Frickin last place I'd send them to be honest.

Yes, I walked into BT for the first time years ago and the Clinique counter is of course right inside the front door. I walked up to the counter and gave my spiel about my skin and they said it was great for sensitive skin etc etc. and that didn't really work out too well but then I found Prescriptives :(

They have some of the best sales people around there. I guess the products work for some people. I just think there are better brands out there. The products seem too chemically to me. You also need about three different face creams for it to work properly.

    Sorry, rant over!

Yeah I specifically remember the first time I was in there the lady wanted to buy me some sort of face cream that was €90  and just kept telling me it would improve the appearance of my make up etc
