Defiantly invest in one of those tool sets. It'll cost you a lot more to buy them piece by piece (the mistake I made) There's one you can buy in any Halfords that's a fair bit cheaper than the Chainreaction one.

That halfords kit isn't great, quality is poor and some of the tools in it are obsolete for most bikes.

The xtoolskit you linked to from chain reaction is much better. I have it and it will cover most bikes road or mountain.

It's a bit dearer than the halfords one but it includes the tools for installing hollowtech II bottombrackets and also the attachment for tightening the preload adjuster(the star shaped bolt on the lh crank)

also has some very good tyre levers in it.

well worth the money and will suit most peoples requirements.

looks decent . Pretty much tge same stuff as the crc one but with some extra tools. Might be worth a look if your willing to wait on it coming into stock

Means they don't have any in stock now, but will have more in within a week. I've ordered things from them with a restock time and they've always turned up eventually.

Looks exactly like the one I got branded PBK, everything in it is good except the tyre levers (which you should have anyway).

I'm doing a bike build and find I need a few more parts. This is a good basic kit though.

I've that CRC kit too and found it ok for the occasional job. However, it has no headset spanners or old-style freewheel remover (cassette tool won't fit freewheel splines). Park tool stuff would probably be a better bet if you plan on using the tools more often.

Forgive my ignorance but what you would need calipers for?
Checking size of part if it needed replacing?

Short answer is Yes, but it depends on the value of the frame, as it may cost more than its worth.
