What gears and piston are optimal?

Hey guys :D

In my gun at the moment, I'm running a g&p m120 motor which is very fast, and I'm worried soon the piston will be stripped and the gears will be broken. Since this is inevitable, when it happens what gears/piston would you recommend? I have standard ratio gears at the moment and don't want to upgrade to high speed gears as I'm afraid this will have me replacing parts even more frequently, but the gears below look quite good. What do you think?

Im also looking at this piston as it has full metal teeth, thoughts?

Thanks for your help, if you have a better idea for a replacement let me know! I am currently running standard ratio gears by the way (18:1) and the king arms gears are 16:1 so would I be seeing a huge ROF difference?

VFC high speeds are used a lot by people, shouldn't worry about having to replace them to be honest, they were made to withstand the strain. I would recommend the high speeds for the G&P motor though as normal gears will not handle it too well.

Ok thanks. Any comment on the king arms gears? Ive seen MIA use them in some high ROF upgrades.

Also, where are VFC gears available?

vfc gearsets are avalible in QAS, they have a thread in the retailers section, they are very good and stand up to a fair bit of abuse.
as for pistons, i use these they easily withstand high speed set up's.

sorry mate can't comment on the KA ones, I've never used them myself all my guns are G&G and i don't change them bar the hop up and barrel but like I said fm word of mouth and seeing them used the VFC's are one of the best I would say the KA's are similar but like i said can't say for sure

KA don't even come close to the VFC gears...

Some things to consider:
HOW FAST do you want it?You should be getting around 20@sec with standard ratio gears/G+P M120 combined with a 9.6v mini battery.
If you want more VFC or KING ARMS high speeds are fine and will bring it up another 2-4 bb@sec
WHAT type of gearbox are you using? Needs to be high quality reinforced-preferably with 8 or 9mm bearings to spread the huge load on the gear train which can often cause bearing collapse(Most notable under the spur gear) If you only have 7mm change to solid bearings with an oil channel.
As Thermo rightly pointed out you also need a piston capabable of handling the speed At least 3 steel teeth preferable-removing tooth next to pickup tooth can help(Comes already removed on Thermos which has a 14 steel tooth rack)
Also be prepared for more maintainence and keep a spare piston handy for any untimely breakages.
Hope that helps:)

Thanks for all the replies guys, Ill be looking into some VFC gears, however Im not look for a huge ROF, just a reliable setup. I have 8mm solid bearings, and will probably be purchasing the piston already recommended. With this set up, paired with a G&P M120, what would be the first thing likely to be stripped?A And how reliable would the set up be? I can't really comment on the strength of the shell other than the 8mm bearings, is there any way I can tell? From what I have seen I can't distinguish my shell from other shells.
EDIT:
Do VFC make any standard ratio gears? The closer the ROF is to 20 the better (not too high, not too low!). Im trying to make a reliable gun here, not a speed demon hence why I am staying well clear of any short stoking. Thanks for all your help!

EDIT:

Is this the recommended set? http://tntquality.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=11_104&products_id=443

If so, do self shimming gears work in a regular type 2 gearbox without modification?

first thing to strip? the gear on the motor!
do you own a dremmel type tool? if so you can prolong the life of your gearbox by stripping the gearbox, remove the cylinder and rounding out the corners of the slot the cylinder sits into* the rounded corners help spread the impact shock.

* i bear no responsibility for anyone wrecking their gearbox shell by taking too much off.

The gear on the motor? What a nasty part to strip, are they even replaceable or does the whole motor need to be replaced?

They are replaceable. Some have a little grub screw to hold them in place and some are simply pressed into place.
The pressed ones can be extremely difficult to remove and require a puller tool.

If you strip the pinion gear, you're probably better off just cutting/dremelling it off, as the gear is useless when stripped.

But as Rooky said, if it's just a pinion gear that goes, you can replace it with a number of alternatives - loads of reinforced ones available :)
