Just got a present of a shaving brush from my wife lately. Just wondering could anyone tell me what is a good brand of shaving soap to buy and where?

    Thanks

I like the Taylors sandalwood soap, and I'm massively into their shaving shop cream at the moment.

Mitchells Wool Fat is my current favourite.

    Welcome to FH&H!

At the budget end; nothing wrong with the palmolive stocked by Tesco. I use it in my rotation and its a nice soap.

The Proraso shaving soap bowls from shaving.ie above are excellent. A top notch cream at an excellent price (just checked they're only €5.95). They last ages too.

If you are going to get Proraso I would suggest getting it from 4men.ie

For today and tomorrow it's buy 1 get 1 free (so said the newsletter anyway).

    It's this Proraso that's buy 1 get 1 free http://www.4men.ie/index.php?sid=02e29f7117e11540200f07555f638fa3&cl=details&anid=PO02

That's what I've done anyway. That way you'll get an idea of what stuff does what and which you like.

Recently tried the Palmolive soap stick (65c) and the palmolive shave cream(€1.65) in tesco. And I'm trying the Wilkinson Sword blue soap bowl which I picked up in Boots for I think (€3.95), though you'd prob get it cheaper in tesco.

I loved the palmolive soap stick. Lovely smell and decent lather, but I'm keeping it by for travel. The Palmolive shave cream makes a decent lather that makes a fine shave. I'm not all too fond of the consistency though. It's kind of marbly/silky, I don't mind a glossy lather but you mightn't find this a problem, the smell's not great either. And last but not least the wilkinson sword soap bowl is awesome. Lovely smell, kick ass lather. I've read mixed reviews and I'm yet to try an expensive soap. But at the moment it's getting five stars from me.

I did the exact same, recently I bought some cheaper soaps, like above. I also bought the Boots own brand lather cream, I've yet to try any of them though but good to hear the Wilkinson one is working well.

A great shaving soap is the Palmolive shaving stick. Only about 70c for 50g in Tesco, it is by far the best value one I have used and maybe as good if not better than the Proraso soap I like.

I grated the whole stick into a container then just add a pinch to my shaving mug.

You can't go wrong for the price.

Tabac (hard to get in Ireland/not everyone likes the scent) and Mitchells Wool Fat probably the best shaving soaps in the world - end of :D

Tabac isn't too hard to get.

    Good Stuff - Didn't know Chris had it....although I do have a 10 year supply stockpiled :D
(well there was a rumour that triple milled tallow based shave soaps were disappearing...)

Yea I don't really like it - I only use the shaving soap(jar and stick), shower gel, after shave, after shave balm, hand soap and occasionally deodorant stick and cologne...so not mad about it :D

I've only got the after shave so I couldn't possibly comment on the soap....

unless somebody wants to send a sample? :D
