What are 'reflectors'?

Just reading through some material before my test and under 'Technical Checks' it lists everything on which you can be asked to explain a check, and one of these is 'Reflectors'.

I've just never seen a dedicated reflector on a car. Is this something to do with the lights or does it only apply to some vehicles?

    Thanks!

Sorry, I should have worded that better. I know what reflectors are, but I just don't know where they are on a car. Do all cars have them?

I've always assumed the backing/inside of the lights double up as reflectors, but it sounds as if there are some 'dedicated' reflectors that serve only that purpose.

Most cars have reflectors in the same panel as the brakelights and reverse lights etc. Your car will almost definitely have one. its used for when a car is parked at night. - otherwise it would be difficult to see to approaching cars

Some cars have 2 red strips in the bumper and others have it built into the light cluster. Easiest way to find in on your car is park somewhere dark and shine a torch at the back of the car.
