Enquiring about a campsite in Munich

    Hi,

Me and a few mates are going interrailing and will be in Munich for Oktoberfest 2011. We were trying to book a campsite for two nights, this one.....

    http://www.munich-oktoberfest.com/en_EN/index.php?set=home

    Anyone ever heard of it?

They are asking us to pay the whole lot up front through a credit card and send it to them. No deposit or anything. Is this normal for campsites or hostels in Europe? We thought straight away it sounded a bit dodgy and we cant seem to get a whole lot of information on them.

Is there anywhere ye would recommend to stay in Munich? Most places are booked out at that time due to Oktoberfest. We are also looking at Hostival, a kind of nomadic hostel where they move to all the big global festivals and set up a base where backpackers can stay. Anyone ever heard of it? If so would ye recommend it?

Any info from anyone who has stayed there or knows anything about them would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

Yeah I've heard of Weisn Camp, but never stayed there.

I usually stay at http://www.the-tent.com as its very close to the action, and you dont need your own tent. It could be booked up at this late stage though, you can check availability on the website.

The biggest campsite in Munich is Thalkirchen http://www.munich-info.de/travel/camping_en.html, you'll be fine without a booking here if you have your own tent. If you need a tent also, I'd give them a ring to ensure availability. Only catch with Thalkirchen is that its a little far out. I wouldn't worry about that provided you can afford taxis.

Go to the Hofbrau tent on the Saturday, get there early (before 11AM) to guarantee a seat, it's where the party's at!

Thalkirchen is the main city camping site and its not that far out really.
Theres an underground a reasonably short walk away that runs from 4 in the morning through the day till 1.30am, or 2.30 am on a weekend.
And for most of that time theres a shuttle bus to the train and back.

Thalkirchen seems to be a blast though. I had lads over for the fest and they slept out there on a cold wet weekend rather than in my warm large dry apartment with all the crack that there was to be had. Mad aussie women being the main draw of the place for them!
