Wireless Problem - Toshiba laptop/Belkin Router

I am not sure if the correct place for this is i the laptops section or here so feel free to move it.

I have a Toshiba Satelite Pro L670-18e laptop which until recently had a fine wireless broadband connection. The connection started to drop a lot recently so I connected it directly to he Digi web modem and it worked perfectly so I thought the problem must be with my Netgear wireless router. I purchased a new Belkin N+N wireless router in Argos and tried to install it. I can only get online when I have the router directly connected to my laptop with a cable, when I remove the cable the connection is gone. At one sttage I got a message saying my wireles radio is not switched on on the laptop and the wireless icon has a red light on it which I assume means it is not connected. s there a way I can switch this on or is there some other problem that can attempt to fix.
    Edit:
I have gone into Toshiba Configfree and it says my wireless LAN is disabled. How can I enable it.
