Zero tax credits - no wages this month?

    My employer name seems to have changed without my knowledge. I guess they transferred me internally within their organisation to another business unit even though my job hasn't changed.

    I was re-issued a new Tax Credit Certificate, but under the name of my "new employer" it says that I have ZERO tax credits and a ZERO tax rate band. I probably should have paid more attention to this when it arrived a few weeks ago.

    The HR dept. have now contacted me to say for this months salary run I may receive a negative salary payment!! They claim that the files on the Revenue system state I have ZERO tax credits and a ZERO tax rate band. They say I should contact them directly about it.

    The payroll run has already been done, but we don't get paid until the end of the month (I will also get my payslip then, and not before).

    How could this have happened, and does it mean I will actually get nothing as a wage this month?

    :eek::eek:

    Just to add, I have no other employment and am not receiving any social welfare payments. I am also taxed as an individual (as opposed to joint assessment).

    I reckon that is the case, but I want to be sure there is no other possible reason. They have also messed up my salary a number of times recently, so mistakes from them are not entirely unheard of.

    The reason you received a new tax credit certificate with zero tax credits and zero tax rate band , is because your tax credits /allowances are already with another employer .

    It is your payroll/ employer that has messed up as stated above .

    If you receive a payslip with negative balance , it is the employers fault , and they will have to manually amend / calculate your correct wages and issue you with a chque accordingly .

    Don't accept anything less than your full months wages, taking into account your normal tax credits / Standard Rate Cut-off Bands .

    This is your basic entitlement .

    Spoke with Revenue, all my tax credits were still with the other company name.

    Spoke with HR, they said they sent Revenue the details but Revenue never actioned them. They have manually entered credits and cut off data into their system and claim I should be ok for this month. Phew!

    No explanation yet as to why I was transferred but it happened to at least one other person here also.

    Thanks for the advice all.

    worth checking out from HR also that your rights in regard to length of service, benefits, terms and conditions have not changed. They shouldn't have changed but you should ask and clarify things for yourself.
