Attic Stairs and NOT Attic Ladder

    Hi

We have just bought a house and are planning on converting the attic for more space (mostly storage and occasional guests). The only thing is we do NOT want one of the attic ladders - they'd be impossible for any guests we'd have to use (elderly) and getting things up there (and back down) to store would be a nightmare.

Does anyone out there know of any real attic stairs and not ladders that exist?
The house is originally a one story dwelling and the door to the attic is in the hallway (right in the middle, half way down it) adding a small, discreet spiral staircase would be an option (not the ideal one). I'm not a builder or designer - just an imaginary dreamer I think! But would it not be possible to do solid wooden steps instead of the folding ladder deal?

If anyone is a builder or designer - please speak up and tell me all you know as it would be greatly appreciated!!

    Many thanks in advance!

Would you not consider putting the entrance somewhere else? Chances are the opening into the attic is not going to be big enough anyway, so you'll need to have work done to enlarge it. If you're doing that you might as well get to pick the location. Either that or let your occasional guests have the ground-floor accomodation and take the spare room yourself...

    Hi
Can you draw sketch of downstairs and upload. I designed a stairs for my brother by putting stairs half way between two walls and conveting rest of room as a office. Worked perfect.

A spiral stair case would be much harder to use to bring stuff up as oppose to a ladder.
