Citroen C-Crosser opinions

    Hi all,

I'm looking for comments on the Citroen C-crosser 2.2 diesel. I've come across a clean one recently. Not too many of them about. Its basically a Mitsubishi Outlander body with the Citroen 2.2HDi which has been about for a while. Anyone own one or have experience of one. Initial cost was in the region of 45K but I can buy a 2008 model for 33K less than that. 11K per year depreciation sounds mad but is there a reason for this?. I currently drive a C5 HDi so am familiar with the vagaries for French electronics.

    I know they're rare - anyone?

Must say I like them and would definitely consider if I was in the market for a SUV. Would try to get an Exclusive model with leather if you could.

I drove one for a weekend, was nice, had a high spec, Leather etc.

In the snow etc you'd be better off with a lighter 4wd on the correct tyres, but that is a whole other discussion.

    Tax won't be cheap.

Thanks for all the replies. Must brush up on my school French.

Tax would be a killer. I heard somewhere (not sure if it's true) that for vehicles registered in 2008, you can change from registration based system to emission based system. If that is true & going on the emissions I found on the web, it would drop the tax to the same as my 2 litre C5.

Can't find anything bad about the C-crosser on the web but I guess not that many were sold. Odd mention of the clutch in the equivalent Peugeot but than seems common with everything with the Dual Mass Flywheel nowdays.

The body is basically a Mitsubishi & the 2.2HDi has been around long enough to have most problems sorted.

co2 on 2179ccm diesel is 175 which turns to 630/12 mths, pre-08 that would be 823/12 mths, would not call the tax killer :D
    vrt is ridiculous

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,268 ✭✭✭TigerTim

Maybe not a killer but a pain in the butt !!!. If I could save 200 on it, that would be great.

I had an Outlander and if it had a softer ride and a more refined engine which I'm guesing the Citreon has then it is a lot of car for the money if you can find one. I'm guessing there is great value to be had in the 2007 ones because of the tax issue.

Edit: Actually only 10 on carzone and all 2008 and 2009.

High mileage on this one but cheap!

Thanks to all who replied & Veetwin. I actually bought my C5 of that garage, Naas Road Autos 18 month ago. Found them really great to deal with. I've phoned about that C-Crosser & could get a good deal but would have to sell the Citroen C5 privately. Will be in Dublin next week so might take a look if I have time.

Can't find too much neagtive on the web about the C-Crosser & there's usually a lot of negative comments about Citroen!. Not sure if it has a softer ride as it doesn't use the Citroen Hydractive system. Could be the Mitsubishi suspension that's used.

I have a C-Crosser since 2008 and have to say that I am really really happy with it. I have had no major problems and get it serviced regularly in a dealership. Really comfy to drive...excellent road manners and not too shabby off-road either in wet muddy fields and farm tracks. Was a godsend last winter in the snow and ice as I have 1 hour commute to work. Handled it no problems. I have about 150,000Km on my mine and I wouldn't dream of changing it.

Actually...I am currently paying the tax based on the CC of the engine at 823 a year...is it really possible to change the tax over to emissions based and get 600 odd tax instead as mentioned above?

    From http://www.environ.ie/en/LocalGovernment/MotorTax/MotorTaxRates/
New cars registered between 1 January 2008 and 30 June 2008 initially had their motor tax charged on the basis of engine size. If it was beneficial for these cars to switch to the CO 2 based motor tax system, this was effected on the first renewal of motor tax after 1 July 2008.

So I'd guess this means that the co2 value they have on file would result in a higher tax rate - no idea how to follow up on this though...

    Feb 2008?

Then you had the choice of which ever system was cheaper to tax.

    Thanke, LetFly

Glad to hear something positive about the Crosser. I really prefer the look of it over the Peugeot. Not sure about changing the tax. A colleague here at work said it could be done but I haven't called the Motor Tax Office yet.

Well let me know how you get on if you do get to the tax office.

If you can live with the high tax then you will not be disappointed with the C-Crosser. Loads of power from the 2.2 engine and still gives me around 40mpg on my commute.

    My advice...go for it :D

O.P....I see there are a few peugeot 4007's on donedeal..Thats if you want to go down the peugeot route..:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,268 ✭✭✭TigerTim

The Crosser is probably very similar to the 4007 but I can't stand the front of the Peugeot. Just my taste.

Could be out of luck with this. CO2 for crosser is 175 on the web, however it's 191 in the tax book/VLC of the Crosser I'm looking at. Any chance of getting Shannon to change it.

LetFly - What is the emissions reading in your Tax book?.

What's in the log book is gospel really. I'd say the 175 co 2 is from an updated version of the engine and yours was 191 at the time registered. This is 1050 tax. AFAIK they automatically assign 2008 owners to whichever tax is lower anyway.

It will be circa 820 yoyos on the old CC system

    Thanks,

I bit the bullet & went back to Naas Road Autos & bought the C-Crosser mentioned by VeeTwin above. Traded back in the C5 & got a seriously good price. Just hoping all is OK. 400 miles up so far & all going OK. Really like the look of it & very comfortable. Great power but a good bit heavier on the diesel than the C5 but I knew that before I bought. Here's hoping for some trouble free motoring.

Thanks for that. Got 2 keys but the second one is new & not coded so will have to drop it in to local Citroen dealer. Have you ever checked/topped up the Eloys(sp?) fluid - the one for the DPF. Hate getting the dealer to do anything as I don't like been robbed.;).See in the book it should be checked at 75K miles. Book also says timing belt is 150K miles which is fantastic.
