Not a pretty picture at all. The latest readership figures - plenty of red.

Looks bad for the Irish Times. Will it see a boost now that Kennedy is gone?

Yea, and the Indo just on the 500,000 (luckily enough!).
I think the real worry is the Sunday Business Post on the back of bad sales figures for the last 6 months of 2010. The Examiner is also a worry and I'd say there are a few meeting in TCH on the back of the figures.

The Jan June 2011 abc's are out Thursday week and I'd suggest will bring more bad news

There could be a trend developing where people don't buy a newspaper each day. The cyclic nature of newspapers like the Irish Times (business on Friday, weekend magazine on Saturday, property on some other day etc) may have fragmented its audience. The old model for newspapers was "push" in that the reader had no control over what they recieved having had to buy the whole newspaper. With the web, that model has turned into a "pull" model where the reader can pick and choose what they want to read. This means that for most columnists, they are now an irrelevance to the majority of readers who can ignore their columns and just concentrate on getting the articles they wish to read. It should be interesting to see if the broadsheets fall lower in the January-June figures.

As If they were listening! TCH closed the Irish Post today after 41 years in circulation. I wonder, now that the first step has been made, will there be other publications to follow.
