Ford Focus Battery Light

    Hi All,
00 TDDI Ford Focus owner here. (155K on the clock)
My car has been inactive (parked up) for about 2 weeks.
I started it up yesterday for a spin (short).
The car started fine however a small bit down the road the battery light came on. The cars dials (speedo, revs) dropped to zero a few seconds later then back up, batter light comes on and off. I continue driving, I did about 5 more miles in case the battery had lost its charge but it doesnt seem to be that. The light remains on.
I get the car home. It starts fine again, no light, however it comes on again constant a few seconds later.
It's currently parked outside the house.

The battery last got changed about 4.5 years ago, during which it has done about 40,000 miles.
I've read it could be lose cables, alternator, battery.
Anyone have any idea as what the most likely cause could be?
I had a few problems with power in the engine a few months ago (MAP sensor was replaced, full service at the same time) but otherwise no issues with the car bar servicing.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
    Kippy

Most likely the alternator but some focus cars did suffer with a problem in the dash panel whereby the speedo and lights stopped working and this required the replacement of the panel.

Turned out to be a severed wire between the alternator and the battery. (Not sure which wire). The garage soldered the wire and all was good.
Suspect the speedo dial dropping and revs dial dropping that once was down to a bad ground (potentialy caused by the severed wire.)
