    Anyone have a amstrad 1tb box that is so slow to respond to the remote, could be up to 1 minute for the box to carry out the remote instructions after pressing a key, after rebooting 4 times in the space of 1 hour tonight to see if it will get back to normal, but to no avail?

    Do you mean a Sky Amstrad 1TB?

    If so there are known software problems with this box. Check out the Sky Help forum http://helpforum.sky.com/

    I had mine replaced by Sky last week (software/hardware problem).

    Did a forced software update on the box this evening, now I have no epg, no planner, and no anytime. Rang sky, got through to theindian call centre, tech support was reading from a script, she put me on hold for haf an hour before I hung up,

    Rang back, spoke with billing, demanded that I be put through to someone who knows what they are talking about, this tech booked an engineer, says he will probably replace the box, I said I didn't want a refurb, she said under their t&c's I have no option but to accept a refurb, I pointed out to her that I paid full price for the box in november, and that it was still under warranty and as per my statutory rights I can demand a full refund for the box or they can supply me with a brand new one.

    So engineer booked for Tuesday

    I had the same argument over the refurb. Sky seem to think a refurb is as good as a new one! Rang Sky and they couldn't gaurantee a new box.

    So I rang Sierra (01-4198686) as they do the job for Sky. I told the customer care person that I wanted a new one and she said she would note that on the job description for the Sierra engineer. (Sierra get their job lists from Sky 24 hours before the actual job.)

    The Sky engineer rang the night before to arrange a time for calling the next day and I asked him for a new box. He said no problem.

    AFAIK, there are not many 1TB refurbs knocking about so you should get a new one.

    Sorry for the slight change of topic

    But are Amstrad the only ones who do this 1TB box?

    Not their biggest fans and hoping that pace also does it

    I think Sky own Amstrad now so all new boxes must be Amstrad?

    Sky do indeed now own and design their own equipment via the Amstrad brand and upto now the newly released 1tb box is only available under the Amstrad name...you can upgrade any exsisting box hard drive however but some of the early boxes such as the Thomson ones dont work well with larger drives.

    Sky (Sierra) Engineer turned up this moring to replace the Box, Met him in the driveway, he was going to give me a refurb, but I told him I had insisted on a new 1Tb box.

    Basically I said to him "Would you accept a 2nd hand TV from the manufacturer if your own one broke down inside 12 months or would you demand a brand new one"

    He rang the office to get authorisation and low and behold I got a brand new 1Tb Box.
