TV Brands

    Hi all
Looking for a bit of advice on what brand of tv to look at buying to replace an old one. My last tv was a panasonic but i only got about 5 years life out of it. Which I was a bit disappointed about. Have 2 small tvs in the house have had one of them for 10 years. So i thought i'd at least get 7/8 years out of the panasonic, especially considering I bought it for €1000
The new tv has to be 32" LCD and I am not too worried about price. All of them are in and around €500 anyway. Well that is unless some one recommends a B&O one but I don't think my budget will stretch that far

Saw a lovely Sony Bravia one today for €300 but I said it had to be too good to be true.
Anyway any advice on the best brand would be appreciated

I wouldn't let that put you off Panasonic, they're probably the best brand on the market.

I'd avoid Samsung due to after sales service.
Sony are good,as are certain Philips models.
A decent tv at a good price is a 32 inch Toshiba LED,the one thing is it's 50hz,but good for the money

    Hi there,

I'm selling my TV and surround sound system with it. There are both sony bravia products. The only thing is that the TV is 37", not 32" as you are looking for.

Let me know if you would still be interested.

Check the guarantees on the different options. Most are just 1 year which is crazy. There's a post on another thread here where a TV (think it was Sony) offers a 1 year guarantee here and a 5 year guarantee if bought in NI.

Having said that Samsung have agreed to replace our 4 year old set (cost 2,400 in the tiger days, repair quote over 900, new they're about 700 now). But from comments I've seen online that's not typical of results from their customer service but I have been strong yet polite with them and it paid off.

Sorry but it has to be 32" because of the cabinet it has to fit in. Its tight even getting a 32" in there.

may have been in the past, but in the last couple of years they've gone seriously downhill. have a google for Panasonic black issues and see how their European operations denied a problem with their tv sets deteriorating quite badly in picture quality after a years use, even though their us groups acknowledged the problem.

also, not sure if this has bene fixed, but the panasonics had an awful implementation of dvb-t support for the saorview service, that may be resolved though

3/4 yeras ago i would have agreed on the panasonic front, now i would be very hesitant to buy one

op, none of the modern tv's are built with long life in mind. that's not to say some won't last 10 years, but it would be difficult to turn around now and pick one that would
