I dont need any more info as soon as i seen the model of the laptop i said to my self fried gpu.

The gpu is gone on your laptop i can say beeing 99% sure that is your problum as they all go at some stage only way to fix it is a new motherboard.

But just to be sure plug it in to a monitor and see if you get any thing on the the screen all so try take out the ram and try it one stick at a time.

It's one of the models with the Nvidia faulty chip..

    Nvidia Defect Forum

    Boards.ie Thread

Sorry...but this Could be the only solution

You can try a home made solution

Best thing to do is bring it to a repair place, plenty of people doing it, I have a number of a guy in Bray that does it for a decent price if you want it.

Do not try the home made solution linked above me i know some people do it as the say its fecked any way so why not. I fix laptops my self and have fixed many dv laptops but will not touch or buy a broken laptop that some one else has tryed to fix as if not done right does more dammage to the motherboard aka sticking it in to an oven.

Well lads hope you might be able to offer me some advice have a problem similar to this one but I hope its not a faulty gpu ha. My laptop started getting really hard to turn on I looked at the power switch and one of the cables leading to the switch board was gone so I replaced both of them now it doesnt turn on at all ive tried it with no hd,no ram,one stick of ram still doesnt change anything. Laptop is still charging I think because the led at the socket and the one at the front of the laptop both light up.

Sorry for the long post hope you can offer me some help ha

Ok try press the quick lauch buttons and see if anything happens if you still have the original quick lauch software installed you can turn on the laptop useing them.

Thats as long as you put the cabe back in the right way when you took up the board to change the cable for the power switch.

Yeah, you can sell it as parts,

You'd get a bit for it. You can even sell the motherboard as is.

    I'd say you'd get

    Screen - €40 - €60
    RAM - €10 - €20 per 1GB

google or ebay the parts "used", and you will have a rough guideline.. Also condition they're in.

You will get more by striping it but will take for ever to sell the parts as is whole it is worth about 50 thats what they sell for on adverts all the time for.

People like you are the reason, 'technophobs' dont trust us techys.
The laptop is worth at least €150. I could repair it in a few hours if i bought it and sell it on quickly for €250. Do not take anything less.

    Jack :D

    Have to agree.

No one is going to pay €250 for a second hand DV unless they are really really ..........

    150 absolute max.

I could sell mine for more than that if it werent for the flicking screen/hinge wear. Or the missing screws. Spec-wise, it's worth $350 ish.

In fairness to HP the nVidia thing boned them. The new DV6s are actually pretty good value. $699 for the DV6-6135DX - Beats Audio, BluRay, Coolsense, AMD A8 APU (Quadcore with Dualcore Radeon Graphics) and I think 6GB of RAM DDR3. And they're built with a bit of metal, not so much of that plasticy shyte.
