    Quick question;

    My girlfriend is on the pill. She takes for the 3 weeks, then stops for the week as normal. When restarting again after the period does it work straight away?

    I would have thought it'd need time to absorb into the body or something but she insists it should work right away. There's no confirmation of this in the little booklet so advice welcome!

    Did her GP or pharmacist tell her it should work right away or did she just get that idea into her head? I would suggest that you either phone up the GP or the pharmacist and ask.

    Plus I'm confused about your question anyway - are you asking if once she takes it for 3 weeks and then has the break for 1 week, that she needs to wait a while for it to be working again, as in you have to wait a few days each month? She really should have asked all these questions when she was getting it tbh.

    Thats normal dude... It sounds like she knows what shes doing, but you are getting paranoid. If you are worried, wear a condom.

    The pill is taken for 21 days, off 7, and repeat.

    The pill works the entire cycle if taken correctly etc.

    Talk to your GF about this stuff...

    This.

    Why only rely on one form of protection?

    If she is taking the pill at the same time every day, is not sick (upset stomach, diarrhoea) and not taking any antibiotics that interfere with the pill, then it should work all the time.

    This. You're covered for the No-pill week as long as you've taken it correctly for the previous three and start again on time. Google it if you need to know more about how the pill actually works!

    If she is using it correctly and hasnt been sick or had diarrhoea it works straight away. The function of the pill you described is to stop ovuluation. If shes not ovulating, theres no egg to be fertilised!!
