Hi all just saw a few airlines hiring people to become cabin crew (Ryanair, Cityjet etc.) and basically my question is, is there many straight males in this type of work in this day and age and would you if the opportunity arose?

Please excuse my stereotypes for this profession. As a young lad who seeks a career in aviation I know this would not be the ideal route for some, but interested to hear peoples opinions,

    Cheers :pac:

Ya there are loads of straight cabin crew! I heard from people at Ryanair that the gender divide is about 50/50 when it comes to male/females and their are more straight men than gay ones not that it should make a defference! Only thing is Ryanair make you pay for training and can lay you off after a few months and leave you in debt ! Aer Lingus do seasonal contracts from their belfast base where you only fly for 6 months. Alot of the charters do this too! Its a good way to get an insight of the job and see what you think of it. CabinCrew.com has alot of info on the various airlines if you look around it!

Ya it costs a few thousand!! And when you are finished you can be sent anywhere in europe ! you dont really have much say as to where you are based you could end up in Dublin , Stansted or Badden-Badden!!! If you are sick or cant make it to work you are fired , no questions asked i heard of one cabin crew member who was robed and beated and missed his flight and was fired as a result, and you still have to pay off your training costs!

Lots of urban myths about Ryanair, you can't believe them all.

As for straight cabin crew, there's more than the cliche allows. I remember sitting in a Dublin Airport cafe once with another pilot. A gaggle of obviously new in training Aer Lingus cabin crew arrived. For the most part the prettiest girls you could imagine accompanied by one one or two guys. My friend recognised one and called him over. He didn't stop long but he let us know he had practically died and gone to heaven.

If you want to meet good looking girls, can't think of a better job, although hairdressing or nursing are others. Surrounded by good looking women with a lot of the other men around being gay. Well, work it out for yourself!:D

Of course being a pilot has it's advantages too. But you do tend to spend an lot of time being sharing a small room with a hairy bloke. :(
