    Hi all,

I am looking to get braces on my bottom teeth, I have literally phoned every dentist in Dublin, the cheapest price I was quoted was 750 up front and 90 per month for the duration. The dentist said I could have them for up to two years!!!!

I just find it shocking how the prices can vary from place to place. Can anyone recommend a good dentist and also one that isnt a rip off merchant :-)

Im just looking to try to get a good deal, price wise what shoul I be roughly paying for bottom teeth?

    Cheers

I would have thought that the fact that prices vary is a healthy sign of a competitive market, if they were all the same you would be complaining of there being a cartel, can't win?

The qualification, experience and results achieved by the dentists or orthodontists will vary, the treatment time will vary, the need for other treatment will vary. Not all braces are the same. Thats why prices vary and as Davo said its a sign of competition.

If is however dangerous to think that Braces are a item like a oil service to be tendered to the lowest bidder. Cost is one factor but not the most important. It may be better to pay a little more for say a specialist orthodontist with a good reputation who will achieve great long term results in the shortest time possible.

There have been a lot of posts recently of boards disappointed by results from cheaper faster braces.

There's a difference between price and value. You could buy a pair of shoes in Penneys for 8 euro, a pair of shoes from Clarks for 80 euro; they're both shoes, both serve the same function, look reasonably similar, but which would last longer? And should you approach healthcare similarly? (At least you can throw shoes away! ;) )
From all the prices you've been given, tot up the average (add up all quotes, divide this figure by number of quotes)...this should give you some sort of guidance as to what would be around reasonable, price wise.
After that, it's up to you as to whether you're happy to be treated by a general dentist or a specialist orthodontist.

Hey I don't mean to hijack this thread but I was wondering if most orthadontist practises have payment plans for braces? I could afford up to €100 a month but I'm on social welfare so that would mean cutting back even more a.k.a. probably not eating :D

I'm based in Donegal and could easily pop over the border as well cos it's only half an hour away from Derry.
