There has been a lot of controversy on the web and radio about Gillian Quinn's dress in this photo (2nd from left)
    http://www.independent.ie/lifestyle/independent-woman/fashion/rte-stars-best-and-worst-dressed-2846403.html
Critics are saying that at 39 she is too old to wear such a short dress !!
I admit that the dress is short but she has amazing legs and I think she looks great. She only exposed the legs, she didn't get the top half out as well. Just wondering what you all think ? Yeah or nay ?

I think she looks great. The dress suits her. Miriam O'Callaghan's dress doesn't suit her at all.

I think Miriam has the same dress in every colour.

Gillian Quinn looks hot, since when is 39 too old for anything?

Have to agree, I think she looks brilliant, she is only 39 not 59. Can't see what all the fuss is about. I think she gets it right, she has great legs and showed them off. I hate when legs and boobs are on display, especially when older women like Robbie Keane's mother in law put everything out there.

    Fair play to Gillian.

I think she looks great!! I bet it was aul jealous biddy's passing stupid remarks that 39 is too old for that dress!

What about Gwyneth Peltrow, Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Aniston ect.......all late thirties & forties and they all look amazing in short skirts.

Yeah I think she looks great, fair play to her. The dress itself is very modest other than that what with the high neck line, so she can afford to show off a bit of leg.

I generally don't like Miriam O'Callaghan's "look"- she definitely needs to tone down the blonde in her hair, it's so unnatural looking. Great figure and skin for her age though.

But- is it just me or does anyone else not understand Sonya Lennon? And I don't mean just in that photo (that dress is awful, she's far too small so it just swamps her). I've never really looked at anything she wears and thought "wow". She comes across as a nice person and seems good at her job, but her own style is just kinda confusing. I like a bit of something different, but hers just doesn't do anything for her.

Carville, I have to agree with you about Sonya. She is pretty and petite and looks swamped in that dress. She wears some really strange stuff. I think she is trying to do a Carrie Bradshaw but fails to pull it off. As for Miriam, she is a fabulous looking woman who chooses dresses from another era.

Not many 40-somethings could get away with a hemline like this -- and in spite of those never-ending pins, sadly Ms Quinn, we're not making an exception for you

Just a couple of inches more would have taken this funky embellished shift from 'slummy mummy' to 'yummy mummy'

    meowwww

What so the amount of leg you can show is proportional to your age  News to me.

If my legs looked like that at 59, i'd still be wearing the dress tbh. If you've still got it flaunt it!

I quite like her dress and think her legs look great.

My only issue would be that her tan, whether real or fake, makes it look like she has dirty knees. :pac:

I don't know who most of these people are but if I was pointing fingers, it wouldn't be at Gillain Quinn (another inch longer tho would have taken this dress to another level but she's fine) this is a disaster zone. But surely the Indo have something better to print than bitchy nonsense? This isn't news. At best it's internet blather, and not sure it's even worth it's own thread

I don't know who Gillian Quinn is but she is by far the best dressed in that photo. Seems she has a great pair of legs so why not show them off? I think the dress is lovely on her.

Sonya Lennon on the other hand looks a state! That dress is a shapeless sack on her. I can't believe she's a stylist.

I think Miriam's look suits her but I think she is stuck in a bit of a style rut, would love to see her in something completely different, something maybe more masculine and edgy?

I can't believe Claudine Keane let her mother go out dressed like that!

Yeah exactly, Miriam needs to give something else a bit of a whirl, something a bit quirky maybe. But as I said, the hair is too much, way too blonde.

Don't get me started on Claudine Keane's mother. Tacky doesn't begin to cover it. I honestly can't understand how she thinks that's attractive. Mutton/lamb etc anyone??

firstly, I don't GET the Miriam is marvellous hype.............but Gillian Quinn looks flipping brilliant - sounds like the author of the article is a touch jealous???

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,034 ✭✭✭Resi12

She looks lovely. The one in the red next to her should have gotten a size smaller.. :o

Does Miriam ever wear anything different?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,842 ✭✭✭shinikins

I think she has amazing legs, so what if she's 39!! My only criticism would be that the dress is a little tight across her chest, and flattens her boobs a little. I know herself and Niall a little, and she is always dressed well, even when casually, and takes care of herself. I think whomever wrote the piece about her being too old to wear it has a touch of the green eyed monster about them!!

As for Sonia Lennon and Miriam O' Callaghan....ew. Sonya Lennon always looks like a bag lady, she tries way to hard to be a fashionista, and I wouldn't rate her skills on Off the Rails at all. And Miriam? Badly fitted, needs an iron, needs a decent bra, cover your bloody arms, you have bingo wings!! Too much bleach in your hair and please, for the love of God and all thats Holy-STOP WEARING BLUE!!!! There are other colours Miriam!!!!

Pretty horrible "article". Looks like an extract from a crap blog rather than a piece of fashion journalism to be featured in a national news publication.

Gillian Quinn looks amazing! Sonya I'll just never understand. I can't watch off the rails as it gets me too worked up!

    Me neither!!

Gillian looks fabulous. I'd say she works hard to keep that figure too. Fair play to her.

I can't understand why her or Brendan Courtney were chosen to host that show! What is their history/experience in styling people?

One episode I saw they were giving a makeover to a woman who had lost a lot of weight - so Brendan put her in paper bag waist, cropped trousers which made her look absolutely huge.

I think they rely too much on shoe horning people into trends regardless of whether they are suited to them or not.

I could go on and on about this, maybe Off The Rails deserves it's own thread but I think it would just make me too angry :pac:

    I think she looks fab!

Generally, if someone says someone is 'too old' for something, usually it's because they are either

    a) much older and jealous cause they couldn't wear stuff like that at the same age due to weight and/or social pressure at the time

    b) any age and jealous because they're too fat to wear said item of clothing

It's generally bollocks. You can't be too 'old' for any kind of style. Robbie Keane's mum? Well I think that kind of look is a bit tacky on any age tbh. It's all relative really.

There was one for the last season, I'll be sure to create one for the new season, don't you worry about that :pac:

If I had pins like Gillian Quinn I would be wearing stuff however short I flippin' well liked! The "Slummy Mummy" jibe was completely uncalled for.

The bitchy tone in the piece is typical of the Indo/S'Indo I feel.

Anyone know where we could get the dress, it is gorgeous and I would love it!

Totally agree about Sonya Lennon - everything she wears is awful and the makeovers she does on off the rails are desperate too usually - Brendan Courtney is way better at dressing the women!!

And even at that he's not great. Caroline Morahan used to really bug me but I warmed to her so much during Off the Rails, I really miss herself and Pamela.

I'd love to see some new presenters- I really like Síle Ní Bhraonáin and Bláthnaid Ní Dhonnchadha but I dunno where they stand as regards what they're doing with TG4 at the mo. I think they'd make a good Pamela/Caroline type team!

The two of them are hopeless!

Off The Rails is in desperate need of it's own makeover. New presenters would be a great place to start! ;)
