Howdy, i'm planning on building an extension at the back of our house. It'll be a standard single story extension but there are some issues with the location. There are some drains to be moved, the garden is on a slope and our neighbours garden is about 2 metres higher than ours, it's supported by a gabion wall. Space is very tight so i'd like to reduce the size of these walls (with an engineers help of course, i got one to look at it and he said it could).

So my question is should i get an architect. An to what extend, design? supervision? completion?

Most people tell me i shouldn't bother.

Engage a good architect or arch tech, they should be able to make the best use of your space and as you say you will need an engineer to look after the structural works.

Definitely for design including tender stage, as for supervision or the correct term site monitoring, depending on the construction, the engineer and you might be comfortable leaving that to him/her, but the architect/arch tech are possibly best, if they're interested imo.

thanks archtech. By the way i'll get the professionals doing the extension to look at the problem I'm having with condensation in the attic
