Druids Heath

Played Druids Heath in their Open Comp on Thursday. I am a 8 handicap and have been playing quite well lately. More to 3 or 4, so I was quite bullish going up to play.

I had 5 points on the front 9! and managed to get a grip of the course and have 20 on the back. I obviously made some mistakes on the front but I flushed ever shot. The second for example I have 240 to the green and 195 to the start of the lake. So I take a 8 iron to lay up(145) and it bounces all over the undulating fairway straight into the lake! I looked at the hole from a few angles and struggled to find a safe landing area within 150yrds of the green. Other "bad breaks happened" which on reflection was, I believe a reflection of the poor design of the course.

Well, I am not sure if the course is just very tough or unfairly tough. I have played most courses in Ireland and alot in the US and Druids Heath was alot tougher then most of the "Big Names".

On reflection I think it was unfairly tricky, with unfairly difficult greens. It may be a good challenge but I really didnt enjoy it and will probably not go back.

Anyone else have a similar experience or different opinion?

It is the worst course I have played this year. I really think it is a horrible course! The first time I played it I didn't play well, but I thought, maybe that was why I didn't like it. So, I decided to go back and try again, and it was worse than I remembered!!!

Amazing, considering Druids Glen is the best course I have played this year!

Some people got upset a few weeks back when I expressed a similar opinion.
