Clutch noise

Anyone ever experience anything like this before? The problem is with a 04 MKV petrol Golf. Whenever the clutch is pressed there is a loud noise which can only be described as a clicking noise that a kids bicycle would make when you stuck a card in the spokes and cycled. Some shudder/vibration can be felt when the pedal is pressed down. Problem only appeared about a month after I got the timing belt changed. Anyone any idea what this is?

Is the clutch engaging fully for easy gear changes?

    Yes it seems to be.
