It has arrived the SCSI are now taking registration applications at: www.scsi.ie/registration

Generally €400 to register; thats €400 to officially be allowed say your a surveyor irrespective of your qualifications or time working in the role.

Thank god were not in a recession with 1000's in the profession unemployed and emigrating otherwise this might cause a problem!!!!!!

I am already a member of the SCS, do I have to pay €400 on top of this?

If I do, i think ill start calling myself "construction economist":D

    <SNIP>

I renewed in Jan and I didnt pay anymore this year than previous years, although i do remember something being mentioned in the subs letter this year but it didnt say anything about cost.

Are we already "registered" by the fact we are members? Think ill have to drop them an Email to see.

You might want to contact the scs as the registration of title appears to be in addition to membership. There does nit appear to be any link between membership and registration of title

Yeah which is slightly annoying. Had to pay this registration fee included within the fee for me APC start off.

I was rang by the SCSI and told that it was a once off registration fee.

If you are a member already you do not have to pay this fee, if you are a trainee or not a member of the SCSI you need to pay.

If your a Trainee, they refund your €75 annual fee once you pay the €400

At the moment I don't have the money to pay this.
Sounds like a complete money making scheme. IMO

Not according to the registrar. Yearly fee and in addition to SCS fees.

Sorry for dragging up an old thread but i received a letter from the scsi requesting payment of the annual registration fee (in addition to the scsi fee) if €400 again for 2013 so it is clearly a yearly fee. So to be an scsi member, and be on tge register is now nearly €800 without including for dual rics membership.

Letter also states must be paid within 3 months.....any chance they might chase those not registered of which there are more than who have!!!!

With the current state of the marker this is regulation gone mad... A qs does not design, certify or sign off in work so registration is required for??????

perversly, under the proposed building control amendment, they WILL be allowed to design, certify and sign off.....

whereas the profession that actually does that work will not be able to.... typical Oirish or what!!!

The only surveyors that will be permitted to certify compliance under the proposed amendment to the building control(amendment) regulations are registered building surveyors . Registration of Quantity Surveyors comes under Part 4 of the Building Control Act 2007. The proposed amendment makes reference to Parts 3 (Architects) and 5 (Building Surveyors) along with those that meet section 7 of the Institution of Civil Engineers of Ireland (Charter Amendment) Act 1969.

Clearly the registration of Quantity Surveyor was to protect the title of Quantity Surveyor, which is fair enough, however it appears to have become a money making racket by the SCSI.
