    Yes

The 1 year test applies to cars over 10yrs+

Just to add that the NCT can be done on your car upto 3 months before it's due date. You would then get a cert for 27 months.

You will get a cert. that will expire in Nov. 2013, after that you will get 12 month certs. because the car will be 10 years old on the test after this one.

As Bazzz26 said above, you can submit it 3 months early which means you can put it in this month.

didn't know about the 3 months thing. That'll be very useful for me.

I'm thinking of buying of a friend and NCT is up in november. I can pay for the NCT and buy if passes or leave it if it fails

If the car passes the NCT is it worth getting a mechanic to check it over?

Yes get a mechanic to check the car over before buying. The NCT is not designed to be a test of a car's mechanical worthiness.

Deffo get it checked out...the nct is only a legal paper requirement...
(The test & testers should not be taken as gospel as to how good a car is)

Now how good the actual car is should be left in the hands of qualified mechanic to look over as he knows what he's looking at.

The yaris is possibly one of the most reliable cars you could buy. The only major problem some of them suffer from is the gear box. This is usually indicated by a loud hum, but even so they will still keep going for ages before the noise gets worse.
This only affects some of them, so not a huge worry.

Also plenty of them for sale, so if you're not happy with this one just keep looking and get one with a long NCT.

It seems to affect all of them if you ask me.

I've had mine since 38k and it has always whined. It will probably get a transmission oil change when I get around to it.
