    hey guys
not to sure if this is the right section or not, but anyhow.
i was going to buy a 32" tv off amazon but iam a little unsure if it will pick up the saorview here in ireland. i bought a 52" bravia about 18mths ago in northern ireland, and i remember at the time that i had to make sure that it had mpeg4 on it as alot of the english ones would come with mpeg2 installed as standard. i see on amazon that they say it is suitable for freeview but i presume that this means that it can be hooked up to the satelite dish and get the free to air channels without having to use decoder box and i don't think saorview is free to air. actually i don't see any mention of mpeg2 or mpeg4 anymore when buying/advertising tv's is it a thing of the past? or how will i know if the tv on amazon is suitable for saorview?

Whats the link to the Amazon product?

Freeview comes through an aerial from transmitters in the UK and has nothing to do with satellite.

You may not be able to get a 32 inch TV delivered to an ROI address.

You can find a list of Saorview approved products here.

Saorview and freeview are both free to air systems (from terrestrial transmitters)

Check if the tv supports Freeview HD. If it does, it will probably support saorview. If it doesn't, it probably won't.

yes but that is my point, in britian the new digital is or was being broadcast on mpeg2, while the digital service here in ireland is being broadcast on mpeg4.

There are no shortage of suitable TVs available, such as this LG. The problem is in getting them delivered to Ireland.

Amazon continue to deliver certain brands and models up to 42"

Use the search function on boards to check as to whether a model's been found to be compatible with Saorview and refer to the definitive list of certified models here:
