It depends on the manufacturer to be honest.

And whether you can manage a big scope alone. Will you be bringing it away in a car to dark skies?

    Many things to consider!

    What is your budget?

Have a look on irishastronomy.org and see if there is a local astronomy club near you. Most will have observing sessions and will be more than happy to show you the scopes and give you an idea as to what scope is the right one for you.

My own club (the IAS) has observing sessions in Sandymount, Dublin once a Month over the winter. If you are in Dublin and can come along we will be more than happy to show you a few different types of scopes. Check our website (www.irishastrosoc.org) towards the end of September for the dates.

    Regards,

    Michael.

Thanks for the helpful advice guys. My budgets is around 150.

Michael I would love to go to one of your events and I'm only a few mins away from sandymount. I will also join your site, looks great.

As you can see I know nothing about astronomy but love sitting out and looking at the stars, especially down in wexford. Last week we saw about 10th shooting stars on Saturday night.

    Thanks again guys.
