complex, finniky, part-hungry softboxes imo. Good friend has one(04)and it has broken his heart, that despite his brother being a mechanic. They may not all be the same, but his has given serious injector/pump/head issues that cost a packet to fix. His is a diesel btw.

that one above must be an exception to the rule, i drove an 02 2litre diesel for a year or two, my dads business(vet clinic) use the newer model ones, after using the older model beforehand,

My one never gave me an ounce of trouble, only thing to be replaced was the fanbelt tensioner, other than that it was just servicing cost, fairlly good on diesel two, petrol version is heavier on juice.

The only reason i don't have my one now is that i wrote it off! still miss it, but took the opputunity to upgrade to a lnd cruiser, as i do alot of towing, get out and thest drive some though, cause they are a great little wagon!

I have a 06 diesel g vitara for the last 3 and a half years no real complaints. It had diesel filter issues when i got it they were fixed under warranty by garage. it is chosey about the quality of diesel, bad diesel makes it chug, lose power and drop revs. branded diesel and quality synthetic engine and it runs perfect. i have put up 55000 miles since i got it and no probs. in the snow last winter it was f~~kin brilliant, never lost traction my area is out in the sticks and we got it deep, it was up over most car bumpers 9 10 inches. i pulled 5 or 6 of the neighbours home. perm 4wd with a low box its very capable of road.
Not great on fuel, 35ish, very plasticy and bland inside, seats not very comfortable but ok.
as a cheap 4x4 with a low box its a good buy

to be honest all i want is something well down the years and for the snow,i live on top of a mountain and last year was a nightmare mostly down to the car i had(bmw328i)so it was parked the entire time of the snow and all that could get out was the quad, spent all my time ploughing the road and grittin and nobody helpin.everybody has jeeps here so they just drove straight passed.
    cheers for the advice triskell

I Have a Vitara, it's so old and with so high milage I'd be embarassed to tell you. :D It runs like clockwork and takes dog's abuse. The only fault I have with it is that the petrol tank is very small. It only holds about €37 worth so I always have to keep an eye on the guage or carry a full jerrycan.

187,000 km - November 1994. I doubt that the milage is genuine but it keeps going and I'm not going to knock it. :D

I told you it was embarrassing.

Make sure you go for the model with the mazda engine if your going for a diesel one, up to 01 i think. the model after that had a 1.9 HDI Psa engine that gave alot of injector and engine problems that were troublesome and very expensive to put right.
