log bench with electric chainsaw?

How long would this saw last? never really rated electric saws until I saw this....Looking for something similar (was thinking chopsaw) reasonable price to cut a couple of tonne a year of max 6 inch diametre , any suggestions

That looks very dangerous to me.

Surely this set-up brings you and your hands a lot nearer the cutting bar, and really puts you in harms way if the chain broke?

FFS his arm is right over the tip of the saw . You could buy a saw horse that can hold a few logs together and ratchet strap them down and then use the chainsaw the way it should be used .

was always told never to linger directly inline of a chainsaw bar while its working... if the chain breaks.... nuf said.

    That thing is lethal.

Get youself one of these. I bought one. Great job for the money. You can cut away without worrying about taking off someones fingers. They're on e-bay.co.uk

A health & safety disaster .- The chain don't have a safety cover , - the saw probably don't have a safety lock , and you are cutting towards you .

If you know that the max is 6 inch diameter , get a heavy duty Black & Decker Chopsaw ..

That thing isn't a patch on what I've seen on other log cutter threads. Like things you'd expect to see in Mad Max films.

That youtube clip looks dangerous as f**k to me.
I bought a log holder at the ploughing a few years ago from some dude in Carlow.
Similar to regular saw horses but you push down a pedal on a spring and tie a chain around a bunch of sticks/logs (don't think i've explained it very well but i'll stick up a photo tomorrow).
You fly through the timber with it in a safe manner.

Looks handy ( pakalasa), but at 200 pounds ill have to have a go at making one...... any suggestions on a chopsaw with feed rollers ect. I just want to get set up once and for all without the constant sound and weight of a saw hanging off me and all that comes with them e.g fuel/oil/sharpening/ wear and tear ect. ........ will fell and cut in the field into 8-10 ft lenghts and then chop in the open shed with mains power..........................and yes safety first:) tanx cc30.........

I know the guys name and address if anyone is interested . -- Lets see it first when you upload a pic.

It was on the Late Late Show about 10 years ago, on an entrepreneur competition or something similar .

It would'nt hold the log as solid as the one in youtube clip above though .

It would be built for logs of greater diameter than 6 inches .

If I was only cutting a couple of tonne of wood a year I'd just use a small chainsaw, maybe a 13" bar. Nice and light, easy to use and go where you like with it!

Hope to be cutting 1/2 to 1 acre of ash copice possibly more as I intend to plant ash on alot more of < marginal land around the farm thats only growing (elephant) rushes at the moment, I also intend to source some thinnings from the local forestry in bulk when setup........thinking down the road with increasing oil prices ect. will there be any of these items (saws) in the tullamore show this weekend?

I can't remember what I paid. I think it was around the 110 euro mark.
I find it great, in that I dont need a second person to hold the logs, like I did on the old timber 'horse' I had. The trick using it though is to divide the timber to be cut, into bunches of the same diameter. That way you don't have to go adjusting the swinging latch every time.
It's dead light and very strong aswell. I put a 12" ESB pole on it, no problem.

I agree with the others, linked video of saw horse is SUPER
    dangerous.

Recommended saw horse is good and I've seen it in operation
    simple and handy.

In regards cutting/logging for firewood, chainsaw is great for the field
but is noisy and fairly expensive to run at a Euro an hour anyway (fuel only)

In the yard I'd recommend a simple bench and a 210mm sliding mitre saw
cheaper to run and blade stays sharp for a long time.

I've a cheapie 44 Euro special from woodies 210mm fixed mitre saw that
I removed the safety guard because it was full of sawdust and sticking
and *cough* never put it back on because I realised I could cut 9x2s
    with the guard off.

I'll post a picture sometime later

I think I have the same saw horse as you Locky. Its quite similar to this - except it holds several more logs and would hold at least 4 x 6 inch logs.

I think it would be very easy to made and with the chain it certainly is very safe, nothing ever flies.

Bought mine off deondeal 3 years ago for €120.
